Spring Learning Showcase Artifacts Examples

Department Examples

ELA ● 8th grade: I had students present their digital portfolios to parents to show their
growth over time. They make a plan for the presentation prior to and then the
student and parent reflect after the conference.
● 9th grade Honors and Regular: My students choose a non-fiction book to read
and study. (They must meet with me in a Socratic Seminar type setting a couple
of times). They create a project inspired by their novel to present at learning
showcase. I have had games, plays, things they build, presentations of
community service that they did, slide presentations, demonstrations, books of
poetry.

activities together.

World Language ● (Barkman) I have displayed projects such as, family trees/scrapbooks, travel
units, etc... others I know have strictly done some type of speaking activity.
● (Trapani) This is the German 2 project. I have the list play continuously while
the German 1s showcase their Dreamhouse Project (That might change this
year). It really effective and parents love to come in and see what they students
have done. It combines speaking and technology (and hits the standard of
famous German-speaking individuals).

● (Doty) I had student work displayed in my classroom. (caricature assignment)
Parents walked around the room looking at and for their student's work. If a
parent and student came in together, the student was given English prompts on
a half sheet of paper to "show" Mom or Dad how much they can say about
themselves in Spanish. Parents really enjoyed that!
● (Grammatico) I do a visual vocabulary project for each unit, I keep their mini
"projects" for each unit, I display some and then make a class book/collection
for the rest, just a simple binding...when parents walk in, there are binded
projects together labeled by semester and hours. I have their writing samples in
a writing collection. I keep these in order of the year so that students can see
progression. I also have group poster projects/posters spread out across the
tables. THEN I also have a white board table with speaking prompts and the
students (that come to Showcase) sit down and have to speak to their parents,
one sided convos...I also have the music that we sing and listen to in class,
playing in the background...My showcase is a collection of the year, I always
start collecting from the beginning of the year.
● (Edelson) I think the best way students can showcase their language learning is
by speaking the TL to their parents! I make notecards with different speaking
prompts in English, let the parents pick a card, and have the student do a little
impromptu speaking presentation in Spanish.

LRC Feedback ● LRC students come and demonstrate how they use technology and apps in
their schoolwork. It was a huge success.
● students from project-based learning classes came and showed off their
projects. Displays were set up by the main office where there was much traffic
and interest
● LRC co-teacher worked collaboratively with their GE co-teaching partner to
develop the class learning showcase. Every class was different. For example,
the students did a project and explained/displayed them for parents.
● Students created a scavenger hunt and the students had to show their learning
by working through the clues of the scavenger hunt with their parents.
