Flow through CW channel to CW & ACW pump sump

For gravity flow in open channel , Mannings Formula has been used

Mannings Formula V = 1.486/n X R 2/3H a1/2

Where, V = Velocity
n = Constant ( assumed for concrete channel)
R = Hydraulic Radius = Area/ Wetted perimeter
=by/(b+2y) (b = width, y = depth)
Ha = Energy Gradient b=
= ha/L, where ha = head difference & L = channel length

Calculation:

1. CT 1B to mixing with CT 2B:

This will be the slope if the velocity is accepted as 0.3 m/s, which may not be acceptable.
Inputs:

V = 3.28 ft/s Flow (Q) = 10.6944 m3/s y= 4.87 m R= 6.8439136

= 1 m/s
L = 84 m Area (A) = 35.56 m2 b= 7.30 m
n = 0.013
b/y = 1.5/1 Hence, b = 1.5 y Velocity = 0.30078 m/s = 0.986565434 ft/s

To maintain this velocity at the outlet of CT basin Ha = 3.0558027E-07

ha = 8.4193477E-05
This ha will drop when total run will be = 3272462.54657 ft
Maximum flow of CW & ACW in one CT (Q) = 38500 m3/hr

From continuitity equationb, Q = A x V

Area of the cross section (i.e. b x y = A) of the channel = 10.69 m2

Therefore, depth (y) of the channel = 2.67 m

& width (b) of the channel = 4.01 m

Hence, R = 1.14 m
= 3.7534492074 ft

and Ha = 0.0001411528

Therefore, ha = 0.0118568321 m

2. After mixing of CT 2B:

Inputs:

V = 3.28 ft/s
= 1 m/s
L = 94 m
n = 0.013
b/y = 1.5/1 Hence, b = 1.5 y
Maximum flow of CW & ACW in one CT (Q) = 77000 m3/hr

From continuitity equationb, Q = A x V

Area of the cross section (i.e. b x y = A) of the channel = 21.39 m2

Therefore, depth (y) of the channel = 3.78 m

& width (b) of the channel = 5.66 m

Hence, R = 1.62 m
= 5.3081787748 ft

and Ha = 8.8920668E-05

Therefore, ha = 0.0083585428 m

3. After mixing of CT 1A:

Inputs:

V = 3.28 ft/s
= 1 m/s
L = 36 m
n = 0.013
b/y = 1.5/1 Hence, b = 1.5 y

Maximum flow of CW & ACW in one CT (Q) = 115500 m3/hr

From continuitity equationb, Q = A x V

Area of the cross section (i.e. b x y = A) of the channel = 32.08 m2

Therefore, depth (y) of the channel = 4.62 m

& width (b) of the channel = 6.94 m

Hence, R = 1.98 m
= 6.5011647308 ft

and Ha = 6.785917E-05

Therefore, ha = 0.0024429301 m

4. After mixing of CT 2A:

Inputs:

V = 3.28 ft/s
= 1 m/s
L = 60 m
n = 0.013
b/y = 1.5/1 Hence, b = 1.5 y

Maximum flow of CW & ACW in one CT (Q) = 154000 m3/hr

From continuitity equationb, Q = A x V

Area of the cross section (i.e. b x y = A) of the channel = 42.78 m2

Therefore, depth (y) of the channel = 5.34 m

& width (b) of the channel = 8.01 m

Hence, R = 2.29 m
= 7.5068984148 ft

and Ha = 5.6016511E-05

Therefore, ha = 0.0033609907 m

Hence, total h a for the entire run of channel = 0.0260193 m

= 26.019296 mm
