 First Quarter 2009 Social Weather Survey:
Noli De Castro, Manny Villar, Loren Legarda, and now
Chiz Escudero are the people's top recommendees for 2010
Social Weather Stations
Vice-President Noli De Castro, Senator Manny Villar,
Senator Loren Legarda, and now Senator Francis
Escudero are the people's top recommended
successors to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in
2010, according to the First Quarter 2009 Social
Weather Survey, fielded over February 20-23, 2009.
The survey question asked was, "Sa ilalim ng
kasalukuyang Konstitusyon, ang termino ni Pang.
Arroyo ay hanggang sa taong 2010 lamang at
magkakaroon ng halalan para sa pagka-pangulo sa
Mayo 10, 2010. Sinu-sino sa palagay ninyo ang mga
magagaling na lider na dapat pumalit kay Pang.
Arroyo bilang Presidente? Maaari po kayong
magbanggit ng hanggang tatlong sagot."
To that question 27% named Vice-President De
Castro, 26% named Sen. Villar, 25% named Sen.
Legarda, and 23% named Sen. Escudero.
They were followed by Sen. Mar Roxas (15%), Sen.
Panfilo Lacson (14%), and former Pres. Joseph
Estrada (13%). No list of names was provided to
prompt the respondents.
The survey found 4% mentioning Sen. Miriam
Defensor-Santiago, while about 1 percent mentioned
Sen. Richard Gordon, Sen. Ramon Revilla, Jr., Sen.
Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, Makati
Mayor Jejomar Binay, and MMDA Chairperson Bayani
Fernando.
Thirteen percent could not give an answer, and 7%
had no one to recommend.
Compared to December 2008, the mentions rose for
Sen. Roxas by 5 points, for Sen. Escudero by 4 points,
for Sen. Santiago by 3 points, and for former
President Estrada by 2 points.
The question wording has been exactly the same in
the past six quarterly surveys shown in Table 1.
The mentions went down for Vice-Pres. de Castro by
4 points, for Sen. Legarda by 3 points, and for Sen.
Villar by 1 point.
Survey Background
The First Quarter of 2009 Social Weather Survey was
conducted over February 20-23, 2009 using face-to-face
interviews of 1,200 adults divided into random samples of
300 each in Metro Manila, the Balance of Luzon, Visayas,
and Mindanao (sampling error margins of ±3% for national
percentages and ±6% for area percentages). The area
estimates were weighted by National Statistics Office
medium-population projections for 2009 to obtain the
national estimates.
The survey item on the recommended leaders to succeed
Pres. Arroyo is not commissioned, but is done on SWS's own
initiative and released as a public service, with first printing
rights assigned toBusinessWorld.

Answer:
Yes, the article does define the population through the percentage of the
number of people who answered to that question the best leader to succeed Pres.
Arroyo in 2010.

of the sample and explain how it was selected. If not, suggest a way it could be obtained.
Answer:
Yes, it did state the sample size and how it was obtained, it was obtained
through random sampling method.
e. Explain in your own words what procedure (survey comparison of groups, etc.) might have been
used to determine the study’s conclusions.
Answer:
Personal interview survey, because it is a face-to-face interview wherein you
may be able to predict whether that person is saying what he really thinks on that
particular subject that is being surveyed.
f. Do you agree or disagree with the conclusions? State your reasons.
Answer:
Yes, because the conclusion is derived from the survey conducted by the Social
Weather Stations that is based on the opinions of the respondents.
