There are certain qualities in individuals which are inherent while others
are imbibed. These qualities are not apparent from outside. But on
examining the fathomless intellect of individuals, one can find a wealth
of wisdom, which is reflected in their actions, intellect and calibre in
their working environment. These qualities set apart the extraordinary
from the ordinary. XLRI selects such extraordinary individuals and
inculcates in them a unique set of skills, knowledge and experience.

Message from the
Chairperson
GMP
Management graduates in India lack substantial industry experience
prior to their management education, making their education highly
theoretical in nature. Criticism often encountered was that the
graduates lacked practical insights and needed experience before
they reached decision making roles in different functional domains.

The rich and diverse experience of the students of the GMP batch makes the class discussion in general
very interesting and meaningful. Specifically in the Marketing course, I taught for the current batch of
GMP students, the live examples they provided enhanced the learning of the course. Overall I am sure
the batch would be able to integrate the concepts to their expereince and make more effective decisions
as managers.

GMP, XLRI's one-year programme for participants with prior work-experience, has evolved- over the
years- into a mature programme with an enviable value proposition. A rigorous academic programme,
an international immersion and high quality peer learning ensures that every GMPian develops
exceptional qualities and adds value in every kind of business scenario. The batch of 2009-10 is a special
batch: they are individuals who have chosen to take the bold step of investing time and money in
enriching their knowledge base during a period in which most others have opted to try and retain the
jobs they have. This is what gets reflected in the attitude of the 2009-10 GMP batch: a preparedness to
face the dynamic uncertainties of a changing environment; a quiet confidence; a belief in themselves.
I am sure you too will identify these traits when you meet them.
