Planning a Book Trailer

1. The audience for my book trailer is a second grade inclusion class.

Learner Analysis:
a. Age/Gender: 7-8 years of age

b. Cultural Background: All of the students speak English as their primary

language.
Ethnic backgrounds include: Caucasian, African American, and
Hispanic

c. Educational Level: second grade

d. Special Needs/Accommodations: There are 11 students with special

needs. The accommodations include: small group testing,
extended time, read aloud of questions, paraphrase directions

e. Specific Entry Skills: Basic listening and reading comprehension skills such
as: drawing inferences, predicting, and summarizing

f. Motivation – Keller’s ARCS Model (How will you design your book trailer to get the
attention of your audience?)
· Attention – Inquiry Arousal: I am going to gain the students’ attention by pretending to
be looking for Sylvester, the main character from the story at the beginning of the book trailer.
This will get the students interested because they will immediately see that someone named
Sylvester is missing, and that is a problem that needs to be solved.
· Relevance – Familiarity: I am going to activate prior knowledge in the book trailer to help
students with special needs.
· Confidence – Learning Requirements: I will present students with learning objectives
before watching the book trailer so they will know what to look for while watching it.
· Satisfaction – Equity: I will present all students with a rubric that states specific skills
they will learn from the video.
