1) The mid-point of the line segment joining (2a, 4) and (-2, 2b) is (1, 2a + 1). Find the values
of a and b. [3 marks]

2) 2 solid spheres whose surface areas are 2464 sq cm each were melted to make an equal
number of right circular cones and right cylinders – both of radius 3.5 cm and height 7 cm.
Find how much cones and cylinders were made. [4 marks]

3) Given ax +bx+c=0 , derive the quadratic formula to find the value of x. Say a few
words about the nature of roots. [3 marks]

4) A river flows from east to west. A person standing on the south bank observes that the angle
of elevation of the top of a tree standing on the opposite bank is 60 degrees. When he
moves 50m due south he finds that the angle of elevation has reduced by 50%. Calculate the
width the river and the height of the tree.
Also find what direction he should move so that the angle of elevation to the top of the tree
does not change. [4 marks]

real statue is Rs. 105000. Find the scale factor. Also find the ratio of any corresponding
lengths, surface area, total volume between the model and the real statue. [3 marks]
