o Noted Manipur-based historian, litterateur and scholar Gangmumei
Kamei passed away.
o He was currently a member of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
o He was specialised in the history of the North-eastern region, and more
particularly of Manipur.
o His most well-known books are: A History of Modern Manipur, A History
of Manipur: Pre-colonial Period, On History and Historiography of
Manipur.

 Clarke‟s launches his autobiography
o Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has launched his autobiography
named „My Story‟ in Kolkata in the presence of former Indian cricketer.
o This book was triggered by how he was affected by Phil Hughes‟ death
when India were touring Australia in 2014-15.
o Michael John Clarke is a former international cricketer and captain of
Australia.
 „Number Do Lie‟ book launched
o Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra released book titled Numbers Do
o Lie, 61 Hidden Cricket Stories which takes a different look at stats.
o The defensive opening batsman narrated about the cricket records and
player performances more lucidly that reflects player‟s impact in the game
of cricket.
o It is based on the Impact Index analytics by Jaideep Verma, Soham
Sarkhel and Nikhil Narain.

Dalai Lama launches book


o The Dalai Lama released a book titled “Ocean and Blue Mountains”
published by the department of Karmik and Adhyatmik Affairs.
o The book title refers 'Ocean' as His Holiness and 'Blue Mountains' as the
people of Arunachal Pradesh and is a collection of memoirs of the special
bond shared between the two.

o He also released a book titled “Crossing of the Frontiers” describing his
exile from Tibet
Arjun Gaind launches book on Punjab
o Arjun Gaind launched his latest book, 'Punjab: Building the Land Of Five
Rivers', in Mumbai.
o A panel discussion was organised on the occasion at Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in which Punjab‟s history, heritage, culture
and growth were discussed.
Asha Parekh's autobiography
o Asha Parekh's autobiography, The Hit Girl, was launched by Salman Khan
in Mumbai on April 12.
o The autobiography, written with Khalid Mohamed also includes a
foreword by Salman.
o The Hit Girl is published by Om Books International.

o PM Modi released a book authored by LS Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
o The book 'Matoshree' covers the life and times of legendary Devi Ahilyabai
Holker who ruled the Holkar Empire spread over the Malwa region from
1767 to 1795.
o Ahilyabai is remembered and worshipped by people for her exemplary
governance, sense of justice and fairness.
Book- 'Gandhi in Champaran'
o Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu released a
book "Gandhi in Champaran" by DG Tendulkar printed by Publications
Division.
o He also released a book containing a collection of letters and articles of the
correspondence between Nobel laureate Romain Rolland and Mahatma
Gandhi as well as DG Tendulkar's 8 volume biography of Mahatma
Gandhi.

o „Hope in a challenged democracy' An Indian narrative‟ authored by Shri
Ashwini Kumar.
o The volume is a collection of speeches and writings that have a wide sweep
ranging from law and Constitution to democratic institutions, economic
changes, and foreign relations.
o The book talks about the „incestuous relationship between wealth and
power‟ and its impact.
Book on Draupadi
o A book on Draupadi written by senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily
was released by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on
April 7.
o Published by Rupa, Flaming Tresses of Draupadi is an English translation
by D A Shankar of Moily‟s original work in Kannada.
o The book traces the life and journey of Draupadi from her birth to her
marriage with the Pandavas.
 Suresh Prabhu launches book on Railways
o Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu released the book
titled “Indian Railway- The weaving of a National Tapestry”.
o The book is written jointly by Bibek Debroy, Sanjay Chadha & Ms. Vidya
Krishnamurthi.
o The theme of this book is the historical development of railways in India,
organized into chapters dealing with different periods of development in
chronological order.

o Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs has unveiled a
philosophical novel on God titled "Confessions of a dying mind: The blind
faith of atheism.
o A young Indian IAS officer, Haulianlal Guite, has penned it.
o The book billed as "the world's first philosophical novel for God".
o The book is published by Bloomsbury Publishing.
PM Modi releases Dr. Swaminathan's book.
o PM Modi released a 2-part book series on the eminent agricultural
scientist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan.
o The series is titled - M.S. Swaminathan: The Quest for a world without
hunger.
o Praising the dedication and commitment of Prof. Swaminathan, the Prime
Minister described him as a “Kisan Vaigyanik” – Farmers‟ Scientist.
o M. S. Swaminathan is famous for starting the Green Revolution in India.

Book on saint Ramanujar
o Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami released a book on Vaishnavite
saint Ramanujar, as part of his 1000th birth anniversary.
o Earlier, the 1000th birth anniversary of Ramanujar was celebrated with
fervour at Sriperumbudur, the birth place of the saint, from April 22 to
May 2.
o PM Modi had released a stamp on Ramanujar and had invoked the saint to
condemn the practice of untouchability.

o Venkaiah Naidu and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani released a
book "The Emergency - Indian Democracy‟s Darkest Hour" at
Ahmedabad.
o The book has been written by A Surya Prakash, chairman of Prasar
Bharati.
o The book was launched at a conference to mark the anniversary of the
Emergency and to honour those who fought for restoration of democracy
in the country in the mid-1970s.
Book on Atal Bihari Vajpayee unveiled

o Former Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has unveiled 'Yug
Purush, Bharat Ratna, Atal ji' which chronicles the life of former Prime
Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
o The book was presented to President Pranab Mukherjee.
o The book is 450 pages long and will be launched soon.
Indira Gandhi A life in Nature launched
o The book “Indira Gandhi – A life in Nature” was launched by Congress
president Sonia Gandhi at Indira Gandhi Memorial.
o Book is authored by Jairam Ramesh and published by Simon & Schuster.
o It also showcases how Indira Gandhi led India to the path of conservation
and made it a priority of economic development.
o It also highlights unexplored aspect of her life and love for nature.
 Ministry of 'Utmost Happiness' launched
o The much awaited second novel of Arundhati Roy "The Ministry of Utmost
Happiness" has been launched.
o Ministry of Utmost Happiness is a complex and a nonlinear narrative.
o The book is published in India by Penguin Random House.
o Arundhati Roy was the first Indian woman to win the prestigious Booker
Prize with her 1997 work.

o Governor of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu C. Vidyasagar Rao and Chief
Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis released the book 'Mann Ki
Baat - A Social Revolution on Radio'.
o The book, among other things, includes transcripts of the first 23 episodes
of 'Mann Ki Baat'.

o The book enables citizens to read and understand Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's vision and his ideas of development.
Arundhati's novel in Man Booker longlist
o Arundhati Roy‟s latest work of fiction, “The Ministry of Utmost
Happiness”, has made it to the longlist of this year‟s Man Booker Prize.
o The book came after a 19-year-long hiatus since her debut novel “God of
Small Things” that won the Booker Prize in 1997.
o The shortlist of six books will be announced on September 13, and the
2017 winner will be finally announced on October 17.

o President Pranab Mukherjee was handed over the first copy of the book
'Future of Indian Universities: Comparative and International
Perspectives.

 First copy of book “President‟s Lady”
o President Pranab Mukherjee received the first copy of a book on his late
wife, Suvra Mukherjee.
o The book, „President‟s Lady‟ (Pranaber Preyosi), was released by vice
president Hamid Ansari on a day that marked President‟s wedding
anniversary.
o The book has been written by Sangeeta Ghosh.
o Late Suvra Mukherjee was essentially a private person with a strong
interest in music and paintings.

o BJP President Amit Shah and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat released a coffee
table book on PM Modi‟s life in New Delhi.
o The book – Making of A Legend, has been compiled by Sulabh
International Founder Bindeshwar Pathak.

World Book Fair to begin in Dehradun


o The World Book Fair 2017 will begin in Dehradun from August 28, with
the state government offering discounts on books based on the lives of
national figures.
o The fair is being organised with the primary aim of inculcating a habit of
reading among students.
o The theme of the world book fair would be „Padega
Uttarakhand, Badega Uttarakhand‟.
o The fair organised by the National Book Trust.
Raghuram Rajan Pens Book
o Raghuram Rajan is all set to publish a book about his tenure as Governor
of the Reserve Bank of India.
o Titled "I Do What I Do", the book explains economic concepts and talks of
issues like tolerance and connection between political freedom and
prosperity.
o The book is a collection of essays and speeches during his stint as RBI
head.
o Rajan was Governor of the RBI between 2013 and 2016

o Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh released a book on the popular
author titled „Khushwant Singh: In Wisdom and in Jest‟.
o The book is co-authored by Vijay Narain Shankar and Onkar Singh.
o Amarinder Singh recalled the crucial role played by Khushwant Singh in
defusing tension in Punjab after Operation Blue Star.
o He was decorated with Padma Bhushan in 1974 & Padma Vibhushan in
2007.

Nadella pens book on Microsoft journey
o Satya Nadella, one of the most celebrated Indians in the global technology
sector, has penned the inside story of his journey of becoming the CEO of
software giant Microsoft.
o The book, titled „Hit Refresh‟ is co-authored by Greg Shaw and Jill Tracie
Nichols.
o The title draws inspiration from the digital world where the screen is
refreshed by hitting the function „F5‟ key.

A coffee table book on the DDP released


o Nirmala Sitharaman released a coffee table book on the Department of
Defence Production, titled „A journey towards self-reliance‟.
o A journey towards self-reliance is the first ever coffee table book on DDP.
o It narrates the post-independence years of development, production of
arms, ammunition and defence equipment, with a view to achieve self-
reliance for the Armed Forces of India.

Saunders wins 2017 Man Booker Prize
o US author George Saunders has won the 2017 Man Booker Prize.
o He became only the second American writer to win Britain‟s renowned
Prize, which was awarded for his first full-length novel “Lincoln in the
Bardo”.
o Judges praised the book as utterly original that chronicles the death of
Abraham Lincoln‟s 11-year-old son Willie using the accounts of hundreds
of narrators.
"Beyond The Dreamgirl": Biography
o Biography of Hema Malini, "Beyond The Dreamgirl" is released on her
69th birthday.
o PM Narendra Modi has penned a “short, crisp and sweet” foreword for it.
o Beyond The Dreamgirl, published by HarperCollins India, will give readers
an in-depth look into her life. It is divided into 23 chapters, covering her
childhood, teens, Bollywood, rise as an actor, romance, colleagues,
marriage.
 Book on Financial Management
o Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley along with
CM of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu released a book on financial
management in New Delhi.
o The book titled “A to Z of Financial Management in Autonomous
Institutions” is authored by Dr. Rajat Bhargava and Shri Deenanath
Pathak.
o The book offers an insightful perspective on the challenges of managing
public money.

o VP M Venkaiah Naidu received the first copy of the book „Journey of
Women Law Reforms and The Law Commission of India – Some Insights‟.
o It is written by former Joint Secretary, Dr. Pavan Sharma.
o M Venkaiah Naidu said on the occasion that, we need to focus on women‟s
issues in India. He hoped that the book would inspire many more experts
to focus on women‟s issues in the next few years.
 Novel on Hitler‟s rise wins award
o Eric Vuillard‟s novel L‟ordre du jour (in English „Agenda‟), story of how
German industry and finance backed Adolf Hitler, won the top Goncourt
Prize 2017 award.
o L‟ordre du jour has been among the favourites for the Goncourt prize.
o The Goncourt Prize is the most prestigious award in the French-speaking
world. L‟ordre du jour is a 160-page book.
