‘0: DOT bicycle lane proposal on 43" Avenue and Skillman Avene
Department of Transportation
Dear Department of Transportation:
“The Young lsrael of Sunnyside is a trational synagogue located on 43 Avenue
and 46" Street in Sunnyside, We are opposed tothe DOT proposal to eliminate
patking spaces to make room for bieyces. This is due to our needs and the needs
‘of our business neighbors. As for our needs, we require deliveries to be made at
‘our lection. Our members occasionally park on 43" Avenue. We are concerned
‘thatthe proposal wll negatively impact us by making it harder for us to receve
‘deliveries. Aso, Sunnyside is already notorious for felt in finding parking
pote. If there ae fewer spotz than people will aves harder time parking and
attending our programs,
\We are ao concerned about or business neighbors who wil lose revenues
because it wll be harder te shop at ther locations. Sunnyside’ business
environment looks pretty fragile anit needs more support rather than pressure to
accommodate people passing though the neighborhood on the way to
somewhere ese
Respectully submitted,

‘Access Queens is very concerned about the DOT proposal for Skillman and 43rd avenues.
We cannot support the proposal ast stands
‘This proposal by the DOT has caused division in our area because it addresses only one area of
‘ur very overtaxed infrastructure. We do need safe bike lanes - but we also need parking for
businesses, parking for residents, the ability to get on our pubic transportation, the need for
’ldery residents to get to reliable transportation safely, When the city choses to address one
groups needs, while others issues are ignored it creates the reaction that you see herein
Western Queens,
This is 2 trly lost opportunity. The cy coud have looked at the issue of infrastructure in
Queens holistically and critically. Sunnyside is a destination for residents across the city no all
‘of whom lve near public transportation. Sunnyside residents work n all areas of this region -
‘ot ust places you can get toon the subway, Western Queens needs both monieipal and
residential parking. We also need adequate Select Bus Service, We need transit desert tobe
‘addressed, Without the appropriate public transportation and infrastructure of 3 plan to put
such infrastructure in place - proposals ike this will never garner the support of residents or
businesses
‘Access Queens urges the DOT and our elected official to take the infrastructure needs of the
area 25.9 whole into consideration and come up with adequate plans to address these
challenges we all face as 2 community every day.
Sincerely,
PQA >

Greetings:
| recent found out thatthe City of NY's Department of Transportation fs planing to
‘expand the bicyle lanes along Skilman Avenue here in Sunnyside. hist both
puzzling and deeply worisome,
My church i ight onthe comer of Skilman Avenue and Forty-eighth Street ~ one of
the busiest inersections on Skilman Ave ~ and Iam there nearly ever day. Ihave
never seen any real ‘traffic congestion, nor any bicycles having dificuy because the
‘existing bicycle lane was insuicent.
