GAVAN PHATA INTERCHANGE - DESIGN OF PRETENSIONED PSC GIRDER OF 24M
SPAN (OVERALL) - 10m WIDE DECK
INDEX
1.0 INTRODUCTION
2.0 CODES
3.0 MATERIAL
6.0 LOADING
This design note presents longitudinal analysis and design as per IRC 112 of pretensioned PSC girder of 24m span (overall) for
Interchange at gavan phata . The three PSC girders are spaced 3.2 m centre to centre. The overall width of deck slab is 10.00 m and 0.5
m crash barriers on either side.
Elastomeric bearings provided under each girders at end diaphragms locations.
The girders are designed as simply supported for DL, SIDL and LL during service condition.
It is proposed to pre-tensioned girders. All other instantaneous and time dependent losses are calculated below. Girder is checked for
flexure under service condition and also for ultimate moment and shear capacity.
4. Temperature loading.
2 DESIGN DATA
Grillage analysis is done in STAAD for working out SIDL and Live Load effects.

The relaxation of steel for low relaxed steel is calculated as per Cl.6.3.6, IRC:112-2011, for which total loss ( 1000hr value ) as per
initial stress in steel is given. The relaxation loss upto 1000 hr value is tabulated as given in Table 6.2 and 6.3
As per Annexure.2, the long term loss after 50 years may be taken as three times the 1000 hr relaxation value.
2.6.4 Stage wise Material coefficients ( Creep, Shrinkage, Relaxation and Modulus of elasticity of concrete )
The the construction stages and Sequence of casting is tabulated along with the various coeeficients at that stages. These
corresponding coefficients are further used to calculate the loss at the various stages of stress checks

Note:- Adequate longitudinal reinforcement is provided in deck slab Max tensile stress -1233 kN / m2 For Deck Slab
For fatigue no tension is allowed at bootom of section as per Clause 5.3.2.5 of Amendment No 1/August,2013/IRC:112-2011
DATE : 23.03.17 NOTE NO.: 8195/E/DN-251 (R2)
Eigen stresses due to nonlinear temperature gradient across deck depth will exist. These are estimated
below. The design temperature gradient is refered from Fig 10 of IRC:6-2000.

shear reinforcement required as per Eq.10.7. Here, VNS is the net design shear force after deducting the vertical prestressing force, if
any, at that section.
The design shear steel is calculated by equating V NS to V RD.s in the equation given above,

Since the fixed pier has all four elastomeric bearing and fixity is provided using shear pins at both the diaphragms
on the pier, continuity reinforcement is not required on fixed pier. Similarly, continuity reinforcement is not required
on EJ pier. The continuity reinfoucement is only required on Free pier. However on conservative side, The continuity
reinforcement is provided to resist seimic force generated by two spans.

Reinforcement calculation

DATE : 23.03.17 NOTE NO.: 8195/E/DN-251 (R2)
