Smart Ways to Save Money
Use Generic Prescriptions
Did you know that the average brand-name prescription drug costs approximately $85 more than the average
generic? If you switched just one prescription from a brand-name drug to a generic, you could save more than
$1,000 a year. Have a conversation with your physician to see if your brand-name prescription has a generic
equivalent or if there is a generic for a different drug in the same class in order to save money on your
prescriptions.

Move Down a Tier or Two for Prescriptions

Often, employer plans offer three or four copayment levels for various prescriptions. Talk to your physician
about the best medication in the lowest cost tier. The savings can be significant.

Discount Prescription Programs & Mail Order

Take advantage of any prescription drug program(s) offered by many big box retail stores such as Target®,
Meijer®, Kroger®, Wal-Mart®, Walgreens®, and other stores. Ordering prescriptions by mail can save 10–15
percent and is ideal for patients who take medication on an ongoing basis and can place orders in advance.

Take Care with Self Care

Healthy habits like exercising regularly, eating well and not smoking can increase your stamina, lighten your
mood and lower your risk for certain diseases.

Substitute your Prescription with an OTC Medication

Consult with your physician to see if you can substitute an over-the-counter (OTC) medication for your
prescription. An example would be using Prilosec OTC® to replace Nexium® or using Claritin® for Clarinex®.
These may work equally well and cost you much less money.

Is There an Alternative?
Get a second opinion for potentially expensive procedures—ask if alternatives (new medications, nonsurgical
procedures, therapies, etc.) are available. Also, call Teladoc at (877)362-8746 to talk with a doctor—it could
save you a trip to the emergency room.

Are There Any Freebies?

When prescribed a medication at the doctor’s office, ask for samples from the physician if they’re available, or
check online with the dispensing pharmaceutical company—there may be a discount coupon.

Consider Retail Clinics and Urgent Cares over Expensive ER’s

Retail clinics, such as CVS Minute Clinics, are staffed by Nurse Practitioners. These clinics do not replace the
regular care you should receive from your physician; however, they do treat patients 18 months and older for
such things as minor scrapes and adult vaccinations—and they’re typically less costly than a visit to an
emergency room.

Stay Within the Network

Make sure your physician is in your health plan’s network. Many health plans have out-of-network benefits;
however it usually costs less to use an in-network physician. Check the carrier’s website or call the number on
your benefits card to verify a physician.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

All full time employees are eligible to participate in the Flexible Spending Account program
immediately upon hire. You must re-enroll for this benefit each year during Open Enrollment.

Health Care Reimbursement FSA

This program lets you pay for certain IRS-approved medical expenses not covered by the insurance
plan with pre-tax dollars.

Some examples of eligible expenses include:

 Co-Pays, Deductibles, Co-Insurance (applies to Medical, Rx, Dental & Vision)
 Hearing services, including hearing aids and batteries
 Vision services including contact lenses, contact lens solution, eye exams, and glasses
 Orthodontia
 Chiropractic services
You must have a prescription for over the counter medications and have those prescriptions filled by
the pharmacist in order to be reimbursed for them by the FSA.
The annual maximum amount that you can contribute to the Orchard Software Health Care FSA
program is $2,550 per calendar year.

Budget Carefully – At the end of the year, you will be allowed to carryover up to $500 of unused
health FSA funds into the following plan year. Any funds in excess of $500 will be forfeited.

Dependent Care FSA

The Dependent Care FSA lets you use pre-tax dollars towards qualified dependent care such as
caring for children under the age of 13 or caring for elders. The annual maximum amount you may
contribute to the Dependent Care FSA is $5,000 (or $2,500 if married and filing separately) per
calendar year.

Dependent care includes:

 The cost of child or adult dependent care
 The cost for an individual to provide care either in or out of your home
 Nursery schools and preschools (excluding kindergarten)

Unlike the health care FSA, dependent care FSA's are not "pre-funded"; employees will only receive
reimbursement for the amount deposited into the account as of the reimbursement date.

IRS regulations do NOT allow reimbursements for services that have not yet been provided, so even
if you pay in advance for your expenses, you can only claim service periods that have already
occurred. For example, if you are required to pay for all of January's child care expenses on January
1; you cannot claim the entire month's expense until February. Dependent Care funds do not carry
over.

401(k) Retirement Savings Plan

All employees scheduled to work at least 1000 hours annually are eligible to participate in the
Orchard Software 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.

To help you save for retirement, Orchard Software sponsors both a traditional and a Roth 401(k)
retirement savings plan as part of its benefits package. The 401(k) is a way to financially prepare for
your future. Whatever your age, now is the time to begin saving for retirement.

Our retirement plan can be one of the best tools available to help you build your financial future.
Some of the benefits to participating are:

 Your Tax Advantage

With the traditional 401(k), your contributions are taken out of your paycheck before federal
income taxes, lowering your taxable income.

 You are in Control

You contribute as much or as little as you want (subject to plan and IRS limits) to your account.
Plus, you have the flexibility to change your contribution levels at any time.

 Time on Your Side

When it comes to investing, time is a powerful ally. Compound earnings are the growth on your
original contributions as well as the previous growth earned on those assets.

 You Can Take it with You

Even if you leave your job, your contributions and their earnings belong to you. You can transfer
them to your new employer’s retirement plan and maintain their tax deferred status.

 Easy Retirement Investing

Contributing consistently is essential to preparing for your retirement. You control your payroll
deductions directly from your paycheck, helping making this a simple and effortless process. And
since it comes off before you get paid, you may not notice the change.

 401(k) vs. Roth 401(k)

A traditional 401(k) provides for immediate tax savings as your deductions are taken on a pre-tax
basis. You pay tax when you withdrawal your funds upon retirement. Deductions for a Roth
401(k) account are taken on a post-tax basis. You pay tax now and not when you make your
retirement withdrawal.

Glossary

401(k) Plan
A 401(k) is a retirement investment account that enables eligible employees to make contributions
from their paycheck on a pre-tax basis.

Beneficiary
A person or entity named in a financial contract as the inheritor of income or property when the owner
dies.

COBRA
Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act -- a federal law that allows employees to continue
healthcare coverage under a company’s group plan, based on a “qualifying event” such as
termination of employment or loss of dependent status.

Co-insurance
Co-insurance is a cost-sharing feature of health insurance coverage that requires the insured to pay a
percentage of the covered services. Generally this is based on the allowed, or contracted, amount
that the insurance covers. For example - insurance pays 80% of the allowed, and the member is
responsible for the 20% balance.

Coordination of benefits
Referred to as "COB" this is the practice of coordinating the benefits between two insurance
companies so that the benefits are maximized, but not duplicated. There are industry standards on
which insurer should be “primary” (pays first) or “secondary” (pays second).

Co-pay
Co-pay is a cost-sharing feature of health insurance coverage that requires the insured to pay a fixed
amount for specific services, such as an office visit co-pay, or pharmacy co-pay.

Deductible
The amount that must be satisfied before the insurance plan provides payment. The amount that is
put toward your deductible is calculated based on the health care provider’s actual charge or the
allowed charge, whichever is less. The member is responsible for paying the charges applied to the
deductible.

EAP
Employee Assistance Program is designed to help employees manage a variety of personal issues.

ERISA
Employee Retirement Income Security Act -- a 1974 federal statute which governs self-funded
employer sponsored health plans. ERISA groups are generally exempt from state mandated health
benefits, but are subject to many federal mandates.

Flexible spending account (FSA)
Flexible spending accounts allow an employee to contribute a predetermined amount of pre-tax pay
to an account that can be used to pay for qualifying expenses. Depending on the type of FSA, those
expenses might include childcare or medical costs that aren't covered by health insurance. At the end
of the plan year, any unspent money in a FSA may be forfeited.

HIPAA
Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996. The intent of HIPAA is to improve access
and “portability” of healthcare coverage. It also addresses standardized code sets for the
transmission of health insurance information and sets the standard for confidentiality by regulating the
privacy protection of patients’ identity and medical information.

In-network provider
An in-network provider is any health care provider (physician, hospital, etc.) that belongs to a health
plan's network. Using an in-network provider will usually cost members less in copayments or co-
insurance.

Out-of-network provider
An out-of-network provider is any health care provider that does not belong to our provider networks.
Members can use their benefits for out-of-network expenses, but miss out on in-network discounts.

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)

Commonly called Obamacare (or the federal health care law), is a United States federal statute
signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.

PPO
Preferred Provider Organization - a type of health plan with a network of providers who are
"preferred", that is, a member can visit these preferred in-network physicians and does not have to
choose a primary care physician. Generally members can also visit non-preferred or out-of-network
providers, but may have to pay a higher fee or copayment.

Referral
If a PCP determines that an individual requires specialized care, the PCP may "refer" that person to
an appropriate specialist.

Roth 401(k)
A Roth 401(k) is retirement investment account that enables eligible employees to make contributions
from their paycheck on a post-tax basis.

Vested
When a benefit is vested, an employee has a right to the income from that benefit. For example,
when an employee is vested in a retirement plan, he or she rightfully owns the funds that Orchard
Software has invested in the account in his or her name and can take possession of those funds
under specified conditions.

Workers’ Compensation
An insurance policy maintained by employers to cover health care costs in the event of a work related
injury.
