Review:
1. Use the information from the rating scale to explain and describe the child’s social development.
(Some questions to consider may be: How does this child relate with other children? Does he/she
seek out other children? Does he/she seek only specific children? Does he/she avoid the other
children or specific children? Does he/she wait until someone seeks him/her out? How does
he/she respond to another child’s invitation to play? Does he/she spend a lot of time watching
other children? Is he/she generally a leader or a follower?) Maggie has had major social
development throughout this semester. She has become less independent. She has made new
friends all throughout the class. Her major new relationship is with Luke D.

2. What did you learn about social development by observing this child? I have learned that
children are shy and quiet when they meet new people, but after they know other people
better, the children become more talkative and more open to meeting or being around new
people.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages you see in the use of rating scales? Advantages of
the rating scale are you can see how your child has developed. Disadvantages are that you don’t
get specific areas that your needs to develop in, it’s just specific skills.
4. Describe a situation where you would use a rating scale for assessment and explain why.

5. Describe a situation when you would not use a rating scale as a form of assessment and explain
why.

together everyday.
INTERPRETATION:Maggie has definitely gotten more socially developed. When I started with
her she was very quiet and independent, but now she is talkative and has gotten more out
there and now she has a strong relationship with me and Luke D.

Bulgaria.

Does the age of the children affect their ability to communicate effectively? Yes

How? The age of Maggie affects her ability t communicate effectively because she is 5 years
