1. Answer any 2 full 20 Marks

a) The following staff readings were observed with a level, the instrument having been
moved after 3rd , 6th and 8th readings: 2.228; 1.606; 0.988; 2.09; 2.864; 1.262; 0.602;
1.982; 1.044; 2.684 meters. Calculate the R.L of point if the first reading taken with
a staff held on a benchmark of 432.384m.
i. Calculate R.L by Height of instrument method? - (10 Marks)
or
ii. Calculate R.L by Rise and fall method? - (10 Marks)

b) What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of total station? - (10 Marks)

2. Answer any 3 full 30 Marks

a) Write short notes direct and indirect methods of contouring?
b) Explain the different characteristics of contours, with sketches?
c) Explain 3 methods of measuring Horizontal angles in theodolite?
d) How do you survey a mobile tower located up a hill which is inaccessible? Which
type of survey do u prefer and why? With figure.
e) Explain REM and RDM?
f) Explain the following terms related to Theodolite
