1. Write short notes on any 2 (5X2) 10 Marks

a) Plane and Geodetic survey
b) Optical square and Prism square.
c) Character of work

2. Answer any 1 10 Marks

a) What are the basic principles of surveying? Explain with sketches.
b) Explain classification of surveying.

3. Explain any 3 15 Marks

a) What is ranging? Explain with neat sketches the indirect ranging and direct ranging.
b) Explain different methods with neat sketches, how you set out a perpendicular to
the chain line.
c) Explain different types of chains used in surveying.
d) A length of survey line was measured with a 20m chain and was found to b equal
to 1200m. As a check the length was again measured with a 25m chain and was
found to b 1212m. on comparing 20m chain with a test gauge was found to b one
decimeter too long. Find the actual length of the 25m chain.
e) The area of the plot of an old survey plotted to a scale of 10m to 1cm measures
now as 100.2 sq.cm as found by planimeter. The plan is found to have shrunk so
that a line originally 10cm long now measures 9.7cm find 1) the shrunk scale
2) true area of the survey.

4. Answer any 1 15 Marks

b) What are the Principles of Plane table surveying? Explain with sketches
