 So-called: used to show that you think a word that is used to describe
someone or something is wrong (kind of like supposed but not)
Supposed: used to show that you do not believe that something or
someone really is what many other people consider them to be
 Maid: a woman who cleans or cooks in a hotel or in someone’s home
 At any rate: at least
 Stick it out: to continue to the end of a difficult or unpleasant situation
Bear with sb: to be patient and wait while someone does something
 Umpteenth: of a high but unknown number / Enisima or Enesima
 Sulk: to show anger or resentment by being silent / to look unhappy and not
speak to anyone because you are angry about something
 Mischief: behaviour, usually of a child, that is bad but not serious / evil,
damage or harm.
 Admonition: a piece of advice that is also a warning to someone about
their behaviour
 Saucy: rude and showing no respect, or referring to sex, especially in a
humorous way
 Fierce: violent or angry / very strong or powerful / showing strong feeling or
energetic activity
 Fray: fight
 Composure: the feeling of being calm, confident, and in control
 Doomed: certain to fail, die, or be destroyed
 Loathe: to hate someone or something
 Uphold: to support (a person’s action)
to defend or keep a principle or law, or to say that a decision that has
already been made, especially a legal one, is correct
 Upbringing: the way that your parents look after you and the things that
they teach you when you are growing up
 Tirade: a long, angry speech expressing strong disapproval
 Pot Calling the kettle black: This is a phrase that states that the person
you are talking to is calling you something that they themselves are (and
generally in abundance).
This comes from old times when pots and pans were generally black and
kettles were generally metallic and reflective. Therefore the pot sees its
black reflection in the kettle and thinks that the kettle is black.
 Flush: to get a red face because you are embarrassed or angry
 Sacred: /ˈseɪ·krɪd/ relating to a religion or considered to be holy

 Clash: a fight or argument / a serious disagreement or difference


 Quarrel: to have an argument with someone / an argument
 Bicker: to argue about things that are not important
 Squabble: to argue about something that is not important
 Occurrence: something that happens
 Harsh: cruel or unkind
 Fling: to suddenly throw something
 To the powers that be: important people who have authority over others
 Manner: ways of behaving with other people
 Headstrong: very determined to do what you want without listening to
others
 Pushy: behaving in an unpleasant way by trying too much to get something
or to make someone do something

 rage: strong anger that you cannot control
 Diffident: not confident / shy and not confident of your abilities

 Outlook: the way a person thinks about something / a person’s view of life

 Household: a family or group of people who live together in a house
 Be pushed around: manipulated
 Starve: to become sick or die because you do not have enough food
 Tangled up: twisted together in an untidy way

 Tirade: a long, angry speech expressing strong disapproval
 Tongue-lashing: If you give someone a tongue-lashing, you speak angrily
to that person about something that they have done wrong

those of a sexual type
