2 Vapour Service
Input data taken from section 3, example 3.1, page 3-10 on reference 1.
Line size (D), with flange taps = 100mm, which gives a nominal line size of 4 inches.
Relative density (G) = 0.7, where Relative Density = Density of gas

Density of air at 15 0 C
1270 x 9 . 81 x 998
so from equation 2, P = 12 . 43 KPa ( 0 . 124 bar )

Note, all the input variables can be obtained from the hysys datasheet and those that are not easily obtained from the
datasheet, such as the differential pressure in mm of water and the relative density, I have shown above how to
calculate such parameters.
To determine the approximate orifice size required, the corresponding F B (Basic Orifice Factor) is to be calculated.
The Formula for the basic orifice factor (FB) is :

A 25.4 mm (1 inch) orifice size is selected which has a 0.4323 F B value.
3 Liquid Service
Input data taken from section 3, example 3-5, page 3-17 on reference 1.
Line size, (D), with flange taps = 77.93mm, which gives a nominal line size of 3 inches.
