It’s an incredibly exciting time for New Zealand fashion, with a bold, bright and connected new generation of designers currently attracting a level of international attention arguably not seen since the storied “New Zealand Four” presented their wares at London Fashion Week at the turn of the 21st century.

From prestigious awards, to industry-shaping stockists and famous fans — Harman Grubiša, Maggie Marilyn, Georgia Alice, Wynn Hamlyn and Paris Georgia are all young labels taking on the world from one of its farthest-flung corners.

We caught up with our new guard to talk achievements from the year past, goals for the near future, and what it means to be a Kiwi designer right now.

Strong women have always been an inspiration for Paris Mitchell and Georgia Cherrie, the duo behind the sleek, textile-forward Paris Georgia range. Proclaiming 2018 as the year of “a new wave of female empowerment”, the pair has sought to embody through their AW18 collection “the spirit and strength of women”. Their method? Bold, ’80s-winking power suiting contrasted with the understated ’90s minimalism they’ve become known for.
