SUMMARY:

This study was carried out to investigate about the dangerous effects of Sasa borealis Makino (a
type of dwarf bamboo) on the environment as well as on the growth of neighboring plants
species. The second purpose of doing such a research is to tackle the problem from other side i.e
to study about the abundance and diversity of plants species other than Sasa Borealis so as to get
a rough idea about the effects of sasa borealis.
The methodology was quite simple, we surveyed about 447 forests in the country of korea and
applied our parameters to check the growth rate or growth inhibition of the species neighboring
to S.Borealis
Our prediction was that the effecrs of S borealis were really harmful and they actually happened
to be as we can see from the research results that where there was S.Borealis was, the diversity
declined drastically.
So the question was answered that S borealis is a pest weed which inhibits the growth of
neighboring plants.
Critique:
In this study ie the paper we have chosen for our study has only to do with the effects infact
harmful effects of the S.Borealis it produces on the environment as well as on the neighboring
plant species but as a matter of fact, we know that in this world everything works on the
principle of cause and effect. Effects of anything without the cause are of no use because we cant
do anything to eradicate the problem without the knowledge of its causes. So, this paper could be
much better if the cause of growth of S.Borealis has also been discussed.
Secondly, throughout the length of the paper it has not been discussed that how this fungus
grows and the mechanism and necessary conditions for its growth have also not been discussed
in the paper. As a matter of fact, the conditions necessary for its growth include heavy rainfalls
and also the frequent variation of temperature in certain terrains. By this it can be very easily
inferred that some of the tropical climates are very much suitable for its growth like the climate
we experience in the lands of Indonesia and Malaysia. Also where there is frequent change in the
intensity of sunlight, this weed pest grows there.
Thirdly, the plus point of our chosen research work is that in the study, a genetic relation was
found out by the researchers between Sasa Borealis and Q. Mongolica which was not an easy
task due to certain complexities in it and this definitely is a plus point of this research work.
After the genetic relation, effects of these two species on other plants were investigated, also the
growing conditions of these two species have been investigated in the research which makes in
distinct from other researches of the kind.
FUTURE WORK:
The future scope of this study is to extend this study to an extent so that S borealis can be
employed to make some useful products. But before that the method of its extraction from forests
must be devised and a separate research can be made on that. In short, future work includes the
extraction of this specie from forest(to save other species) and employ it to make other useful
products.
