Spoken or Broken: Kol Nidre, Bob Dylan & Jesus Christ in Time

You were snow, you were rain

You were striped, you were plain
Oh babe, truer words
Have not been spoken or broken

Bob Dylan & Yom Kippur 2010: how 20 years on from under the red sky expectingrain.com web
master and, tellingly, Monty Python fan Karl Erik Andersen fulfilled the ‘scribdures’ by appropriately
stonewalling the capstone – the only genuine Dylan-Kol Nidre connection - while the Jewish
Chronicle and, following it, expectingrain.com resident Howard Lepidus of the daily Bob Dylan
Examiner ‘revealingly’ contrived Dylan-Kol Nidre connections devoid of ‘skill or will’ (see items for
17 September, Yom Kippur). But were they in genuine ignorance? Or did they knowingly fulfil
Psalm 118? The omission of Born in Time from the treatment of Dylan-Kol Nidre connections be
upon them and the heads of their children – so to spoken. Oh, well, not this time. But I do wait the
happy coming of the next Day of Atonement – in 2011. Then the Dylan world will get what it
deserves: the capstone to send it reeling. Or, as ‘you won’t get anything you don’t deserve’, will it?
Michael Gray certainly didn’t get what he himself called a riddle. From a reference work Dylan has
read, an excerpt on Kol Nidre:

Most of us will be curious to know the text of this melody. It is in the Aramaic language and reads: 'All vows,
obligations, oaths, and anathemas, whether called 'konam', 'konas', or by any other name, which we
may vow, or swear, or pledge, or whereby we may be bound, from this Day of Atonement unto the
next (whose happy coming we await), we do repent. May they be deemed absolved, forgiven,
annulled, and void, and made of no effect; they shall not bind us nor have power over us. The vows
shall not be reckoned vows; the obligations shall not be obligatory; nor the oaths be oaths.' This
ordinance is proclaimed by the cantor. The leader and the congregation then say together: ' And it shall be
forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them, seeing
all the people were in ignorance'. This is also repeated three times. The hazzan then closes with the
benediction: 'Blessed art thou, O Lord our God, King of the Universe who hast preserved us and hast
brought us to enjoy this season'.

Michael Gray also failed, characteristically, to recognise Born in Time as the conceptual
cornerstone of the under the red sky album, rejecting it as having ‘nothing to do with the use of
nursery rhyme’ even though he ‘eruditely’ quoted a reference work stating that nursery rhymes
often ‘poked fun at religious practices’. Not this time, Michael. And his crony Andrew Muir slavishly
followed his cue in Troubador. Indeed, the stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;
and it is marvellous in Bob’s sight. Luke 20:16-18 (New International Version):

"What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16He will come and kill those tenants and give the
vineyard to others." When the people heard this, they said, "May this never be!"
17Jesus looked directly at them and asked, "Then what is the meaning of that which is written:
" 'The stone the builders rejected
has become the capstone[a]'[b]? 18Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on
whom it falls will be crushed."
"Not this time, babe". Fire next time. M F Unger, Demons in the World Today:

By rejecting Jesus Christ, God incarnate, the Jews temporarily forfeited their high purpose and calling in
history, until they turn to him at his Second Advent, when their blindness shall be removed and their demonic
delusion lifted - for they cried 'His blood be upon our heads and the heads of our children'.

Born in Time:

Not one more night, not one more kiss

Not this time baby, no more of this.

Luke 22:51
New International Version (NIV):
51But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.

First kiss - Judas; second kiss - Kiss the Son lest He be angry (Psalms).

Indeed, Born in Time is In the Garden Revisited – in which narrator ‘Dylan-Christ’, straddling time
from then through AD70 and the Holocaust to the Parousia, addresses the Jewish people across
the tenses. (Check out Ronnie Keohane’s commentary on In the Garden, citing the work of Hebrew
Messianic scholar Arnold Fruchtenbaum on the first-century Phariseeical procedure for checking
out the claims of a new Messianic pretender. But it never occurs to Keohane that in the more
cryptic ‘you came you saw just like the the law’ Dylan is covering the same ground.) Suffer Michael
thus far with his damned KJV/Authorised version and let the NIV et al leave him reeling – like
Zechariah’s cup of Jerusalem. Dylan's thoughts and the Dylan world's thoughts - Isaiah 55:

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

just a snippet from an article some fifty-pages long. World-leading experts on Dylan will do well to
stonewall these findings – or be left reeling like the nations by Jerusalem in Zechariah 12.
