Michigan Standard I​- Stewardship of a Vision of Learning

Goal:​ To increase my leadership skills and understanding of the behind the scenes work of
School Improvement Process

Activity (Participation, Lead): ​I will work with the Teacher Leader of the Professional Learning
Committee at Clarkston High School to plan and organize Professional Learning.

Timeline: ​2017-2018 school year

Support Needed:​ ​Administration will provide resources and guidance as needed. Provide
coverage or release time to attend meetings and planning.

Michigan Standard II​- School Culture and Instructional Program (2)

Goal #1:​ To develop and strengthen my facilitation and leadership skills by facilitating a PLC
committee.

Activities (Lead)​: I will be the facilitator for the Spring Learning Showcase Committee at
Clarkston High School.

Timeline:​ Meetings will be bi-weekly and the Spring Learning Showcase will take place in May
2018.

Support Needed:​ ​Administration will provide resources and guidance as needed.

Goal #2​:​ To increase staff and student wellness by implementing a program that celebrates the
positive contributions of students and staff members at CHS.

Activities (Lead)​:​ Myself and another teacher leader will implement a Wellness Initiative at
Clarkston High School by creating a system that recognizes the positive contributions of staff
members and students on a monthly basis

Timeline: ​Begin implementation in November


Support needed:​ ​Mentor and administration team can provide guidance on implementing the
initiative and communicating with teachers about the initiative.

Michigan Standard III​- School Management

Goal #1- ​To increase my leadership and collaboration skills by serving as a mentor to a first
year teacher.

Activities (Lead): ​I will serve as the mentor to the new Behavior Support teacher (Emotional
Impairments) at the Junior High School

Timeline:​ 2017-2018 School year

Support Needed: ​Provide coverage that will allow me to support the teacher when needed.

Goal #2​: To increase my understanding of the scheduling process by assisting in developing


the Master Schedule

Activities (Participation, Lead): ​I will assist in the Master Schedule development by working
with my principal and Special Education Department Chair on developing the Master Schedule.

Timeline: ​By June 2018

Support needed: ​My mentor and other individuals involved in the process will serve as a
resource for guidance and additional support and provide possible release time (if needed) for
the development of the schedule.

Michigan Standard IV​- Collaboration with Community and Diversity

Goal: ​To develop leadership skills and collaboration with stakeholders in the community.

Activity (Lead):​ ​ I will be actively involved with the PTSA and Clarkston for Life community
program to increase the engagement between school and community stakeholders.

Timeline:​ ​By June 2018

Support Needed: ​I will learn from school leaders through observation and questioning. I will
utilize my mentor as a resource and if guidance is needed.
Michigan Standard V​- Leadership Ethics

Goal​: To improve my leadership skills and understanding of Social Justice issues within the
school district and community.

Activity (Lead): ​I will continue my work as a member of the district’s Social Justice Committee
and plan, develop, and implement Professional Learning for teachers on issues of Social
Justice. I will also act as a facilitator during the Professional Learning we provide for staff.

Timeline: ​By June 2018, Professional Learning session will take place in January

Support Needed: ​I will learn from other school leaders that are members of the committee by
asking questions and being actively involved in the committee.

Michigan Standard VI​- Advocating for Student Learning

Goal: ​To increase my awareness of political issues in my community, state, and nation that
impact the teachers, students, and community

Activity (Lead):​ ​I will attend Union meetings and events to stay updated on pressing issues. I
will also interview the Union president to discuss pressing issues such as contracts, evaluations,
etc.

Timeline:​ By June 2018, union meetings will take place once per month after school

Support Needed:​ I will talk with my mentor about the political issues and how they impact
administration, teachers, and student learning.
Year 1 Plan of Work (2016-2017)

Michigan Standard I- Stewardship of a Vision of Learning

Goal:​ To increase my leadership skills and understanding of the School Improvement Process

Activity (Participation, Lead): ​I will participate in a School Improvement Committee responsible


for our school’s Culture of Thinking initiative. We will develop a presentation for staff to present
our findings and work as a committee.

Timeline:​ Meetings will be bi-weekly and committee presentation to staff will be before June
2017

Support Needed: ​Administration will provide resources and guidance as needed

Michigan Standard II- School Culture and Instructional Program (2)

Goal #1: ​To increase my understanding and knowledge of the hiring process.

Activities (Observation, Participation): ​I will participate and sit in on the interviews of new
teachers. I will talk with my mentor and Special Education Director to learn more about the hiring
process.

Timeline: ​By June - August 2017

Support Needed: ​I will need support from the mentor and administrators in allowing me to
participate in the interview process and provide guidance as needed.

Goal #2: ​To increase my understanding of the Response to Intervention and referral process.

Activities (Observation, Participation):​ I will attend my school’s Response to Intervention


(referred to as CHIPS) meetings.

Timeline: ​The meetings will occur on a monthly basis until June 2017

Support needed: ​I will need support from my mentor and building administrators to allow me to
attend the meetings.
Michigan Standard III- School Management

Goal #1- ​To increase my knowledge and understanding of the school safety drills and the
behind the scenes work involved in Administration.

Activities (Observation, Participation): ​I will observe/participate with Administration during the


safety drills and sit in during administrative meetings. I will also observe/shadow my mentor for
one school day.

Timeline: ​These activities will occur periodically throughout the school year

Support Needed: ​My mentor will allow me to participate in the safety drills and provide guidance
as needed.

Goal #2: ​To increase my understanding of the scheduling process by assisting in developing the
Master Schedule

Activities (Observe, Participation): ​I will observe and assist in the master scheduling process. I
will talk with my principal about the process of developing the master schedule.

Timeline: ​By June 2017

Support needed: ​My mentor and other individuals involved in the process will serve as a
resource for guidance and additional support and provide possible release time (if needed) for
the development of the schedule.

Michigan Standard IV- Collaboration with Community and Diversity

Goal:​ To learn more about my school’s demographic information and how it impacts student
learning

Activity (Participation, Lead): ​I will obtain and investigate my school’s (and district’s)
demographic information including number of students, budget, and SES information.

Timeline: ​By June 2015

Support Needed: ​I will need support from my mentor and school administrators to discuss the
demographic information and how it impacts decisions and student learning.
Michigan Standard V- Leadership Ethics

Goal:​ To improve my leadership skills and understanding of Social Justice issues within the
school district and community.

Activity (Participation, Lead): ​I will continue my work as a member of the district’s Social Justice
Committee and planning of Professional Development for secondary staff.

Timeline:​ By June 2017 (work on committee will continue into 17-18 school year)

Support Needed: ​I will learn from other school leaders that are members of the committee by
asking questions and being actively involved in the committee.

Michigan Standard VI- Advocating for Student Learning

Goal:​ To increase my understanding of school board process and how it impacts student
learning

Activity (Observation, Participation): ​I will attend district board meetings when possible or watch
the meeting via video stream if I am not able to attend due to class. I will take notes on the
topics/issues discussed at the meeting.

Timeline:​ By June 2017

Support Needed:​ I will need support from my mentor to discuss and analyze information that
was introduced at the board meetings
