. Identify the pillars of Islam; explain in what sense they are “pillars.” Do other
Religions have “pillars?” Give two examples.
The five pillars are foundation of Muslim life:

 Faith or principle in the Oneness of God and the conclusiveness of the prophet hood of
Muhammad;
 Founding of the daily prayers;
 Apprehension for and almsgiving to the needy;
 Self-purification from beginning to end fasting; and
 The pilgrimage to Makah for those who are able.

Why are these important to the Muslin Life? These five doctrines govern their daily lives
these basic duties -- belief, worship, fasting, almsgiving, and pilgrimage guide Muslims in their
daily life and their worship of God.

2. Islam is a growing religion; explain why it is appealing. Islam is one of three known
religions both share certain roots, particularly in the Old Testament, there’s a certain connection
with each other. Every one of the 99 attribute of God mentioned in the Koran is also mentioned
in the Bible at this moment Christianity is taking a seat in the back of the proverbial bus where
Islam is concern. This seems oddly humorous when a few years ago we were as a nation only
intent in restricting Islam from staying within the US. And then boom now they are a faster
growing religion within the United States. Pentecostal Christianity is
also a growing religion. Speculate if it is appealing for the same reasons as Islam.
The Pentecostal church and Islam have several or the same beliefs in how they feel of woman
1. Humility
2. Moderation in cost.(Not into spending for the sake of wearing expensive clothing.)
3. Tendency toward godliness (decorum).
4. Dodging of outward adornment.
5. Shamefacedness and sobriety.
6. Difference between male and female..
3. Identify and discuss the use of symbols in Islam. The use of symbols is not unique to
Islam. Give two non-Islamic examples. The Catholic as well as the Greek Orthodox Church
use divinity pictures and statues to venerate God and his son and saints it’s a use in divinity.
Many none Catholics see this as worship it is not.

4. Discuss the relationship between morality and the holy scripture of Islam, the Koran.
Identify where the same is true of another religion. Hebrews holy book is called the Torah.
It is filled with wonderful things such as lessons for teaching like seen in my favorite Barbra
Streisand movie “Yentle” the scripture is used in discussions from the student scholars. Rabbis
would discuss things out of the Torah. It’s amazing and sad that is seems there is so much hate
and animosity between Muslin and Hebrew yet they share many things in religion and the like.
5. Identify two rituals found in Islam. Explain why ritual is important to Islam and to all
Religions. Ritual are always praying facing same direction (East); everyone prayers kneeling
on rugs adult and child. Ritual is always important in all religions when I was learning
Catholicism at 26 I found that numbers are utilized many times. Father Matternach said it was
because people recall better when there is a number attached to an event. I think that was a loopy
answer but till I have better I’m going with that answer.

6. Compare the training of children in the Islamic faith to that of a tradition with which
you are familiar.
 They the children worship only Allah.
 They are taught to be kind
 They are taught by example from the deeds of heroes in their faith
 Like the Amish children are allowed to sit with the older people. Lutherans sit children
separate then adults.
 Positive reinforcement techniques are used to teach the young. B-Modification, sort of
techniques.
 Unlike some Christian’s intimidation humiliation isn’t used in the raising of the young.
 Children are taught to be good sportsman
 They are taught
 It isn’t the Islam way to be friends with their children and never spoil them.
 Don’t humiliate them (raising children they and Karen Pryor could teach the mean
spirited Christians like my Dad a thing or two then maybe he would have at least one
friend in his three daughters.)
7. Summarize how Islam, as a religious tradition, shapes the lives of millions of people.
There are a few similarities amid Islam and Christianity, such as a conviction in ethical living
and doing good to others, however, Muslims and Christians have immensely different views on
key points of ideology and theology. First and primary are the differing perception of Jesus, the
Christ. Islam enthusiastically accepts that Jesus of Nazareth existed and that He was born of the
virgin, Mary. Islam teaches that Jesus was just another prophet, equal to and next in the line of
Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Moses. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the final messenger,
higher to all previous prophets, the crucial. Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God,
which as the Jews accused of old, makes Him identical to God. He is accepted as the Second
Person of the Trinity, God Himself come to earth in the flesh in the form of Mohammed.
When a Nations people believe that they are one up on another nation it is probably really easy
to gain converts and to convince them that going to war will win them immense victory. Islam is
a religion that not exactly recruits but encourages from youth that this is the only way to go the
“Whole Show!”
