CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

The methodology used by the researchers in the development of this study

was presented and well elaborated in this chapter. This serve as a guide in

conducting the study systematically and more manageable in order to achieve the

project's objectives:

General Objective:

 Know the self-confidence of G12 ABM students in GMATHS.

3.1 Research Design

Quantitative research is used in this study. Quantitative methods can be explained

as the objective measurements and the statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of

data collected through questionnaires, and surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing

statistical data using various computational techniques. Quantitative research mainly

focuses on gathering numerical data and generalizing it across groups of people or to

explain a particular phenomenon (Babbie, 2010).

The most popular research methods from this category are closed-ended

questionnaires, experiments, correlation and regression analysis methods and others

(Bryman and Bell, 2005).

In general, the Correlation research design is used in the current study which is

used to determine the existence of a relationship between two or more variables and also
to determine the degree of the relationship (Polit and Hungles, 1999). Moreover,

Kowalczyk (2015) tells that the whole purpose of using correlations in research is to figure

out which variables are connected.

3.2 Participant of the Study

Population is described as a group of individuals who have the same

characteristics (Creswell, 2012). This study concentrated and conducted in the School

of General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School, during the second semester of the

school year 2018-2019. The target of the study was the population of the G12 ABM

Student who are presently enrolled. There were three sections in the ABM Student Girls

have a total of one hundred three (103) and Boys aretwenty-five (25). The total number

population is one hundred twenty-eight (128) students.

3.3 Settings of the Study

This study took place at General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School

(GMATHS) during the second semester of 2018. GMATHS is the largest secondary

high school in GMA, Cavite with the total number of 10,000 students.
3.4 Research Instrument

The instrument used was a researcher-made questionnaire checklist to gather

the needed data for the respondent's profile. The research questionnaire was used as

the main data-gathering instrument for this study. The draft of the questionnaire was

drawn out based on the researcher's readings, previous studies, professional literature,

published and unpublished thesis relevant to the study and as well as the internet who

serves as the guide to get the required information for this study. And the researchers

used Likert scales to conduct the survey questionnaire. A Likert scale is where

therespondents are asked usually using five potential choices (Always,Often,Sometimes

Rarely and Never). The research question encouraged open responses to sensitive

issues at hand as it avoids personal biases and giving the respondents a greater feeling

of anonymity.

The instruments used in this research are:

a. Questionnaire

An instrument in which respondents provide written response to questions

or mark items that indicate their responses (Ary et.al, 2006: 648). It is a list of question

to be answered to get information. Questionnaire is a means as eliciting 45 the feelings,

beliefs, experiences, perceptions, or attitude of some sample of individuals.

In this research, the questionnaire is written by the researcher to make the

respondent easier in understanding the question. The questionnaire consists of 10

questions in the form of likert scale. The respondents only needed to choose one of

the choices reflected to their real life.

Preparation: The questionnaire was prepared based on the statement of the

problem that will answer the objectives of the research study. The researchers used the

review of related literature to formulate supporting statements for the questionnaire.

Validation: The research Teacher checks the questionnaire if the statements are

necessary and relevant to the researcher’s study. Then the Teacher was gone to a

statistician to validate the survey questionnaire and to make sure what the right test for

the research study is.

Administration: The questionnaire was administered by the researchers by

distributing the questionnaire to the G12 ABM student in General Mariano Alvarez

Technical High School

Figure 3: Research Process

The figure above shows the research process of the study.

 First step is to identify the problem or develop a research question. The research

problem is to determine the self-confidence of G12 ABM student in General

Mariano Alvarez Technical High School.

 Now that the problem has been identified, the researchers must learn more about

the topic by reviewing previous research findings and various concepts and

theories related to the problem.

 The third step is to formulate hypothesis about the problem. The researcher must

come up to various assumptions related to the topic.

 Next step is to develop the research design, this serves as the road map for the

entire study, specifying who will participate in the study, how, when, and where

data will be collected. The actual study begins with the collection of data, a

critical step in providing the information needed to answer the research question.

 After collecting different data from respondents, the researchers finally has the

data to analyze so that the research question can be answered. The researchers

now analyze the data according to research design.

 The results of this analysis are then interpreted and summarized in a manner

directly related to the research questions.

3.6 Data Analysis

Inferential statistics is used to make judgments through numerical descriptions to

observe the difference between groups.

In the interpretation of result the following statistical measure was use:

1. The Frequency is the total score or tally of the respondents which is the students

that answer survey questionnaire. Frequency distributions can show either the actual

number of observations falling in each range or it can be the percentage of

observations.

Where:

F= total score of students that answer the survey

2. The Percentage was a specified amount for every hundred. It computes using this

formula:

P=f/n X 100

Where:

F= tally of the score of students

n= total number of students

Frequency and percentage used in the demographic profile of the respondents.

3. The Mean was the one measure the central tendency either of a probability

distribution characterized by that distribution.

4. The Pearson r is a statistical formula that measures the strength between variables

and relationships.

Formula:

Where:
N = number of Pairs score of score.
∑xy = sum of the products of paired score
∑x = sum of the x scores
∑y = sum of the y scores
∑x2 = sum f squared x scores
∑y2 = sum of squared scores
