Abortion. A sin to humanity?

Since ancient times, abortion has been used for various reasons. The definition of

abortion as used in this text is: “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy”. Abortion has,

since ancient times, and still is a very controversial topic. Questions arise that can be debated on.

Some may ask: “Isn’t it my body, so can’t I do what I want?” and “What about rape cases or to

save the mother’s life?” While others may say: “What about the social ramifications?” or “Is

abortion moral?” Abortion has saved many lives, but only at the cost of others’. It should be

known that when women become pregnant (except for rape), they should accept the

responsibility that comes with producing a child and the child shouldn’t be the one that is

punished for the mistake of the parent(s). Abortions (especially multiple) promote the societal

acceptance of taking lives, numbing the conscious too. Abortion is a downright, inhumane,

disgusting act and the chance that babies feel pain while an abortion is taking place is

another reason that shows it is inhumane. To put it simply, abortion should be illegal

excluding life-threatening cases, or rape.

As stated by A. Warhol “You can't make [people] change if they don't want to, just

like when they do want to, you can't stop them.” This quote is used because many mothers are
not swayed or even open-minded enough to consider the unborn baby’s side of the issue. It is

immoral and just plain unfair to take a baby’s life away because of the mistake of a parent.

According to Mona Charen and BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), ‘Sure a woman has the

right to choose whether or not to become pregnant. She makes that choice before engaging in

sex. To make that 'choice' after a pregnancy is underway, merely as a matter of birth control, is

an immoral act.’ Put it simple, it is the responsibility of the mother to care for a child that they

have given birth to. Also when a mother wants to abort a baby just because he doesn’t want

to take care of it as it is as immoral as when a father says to do so. This shows how abortion

should be illegal because this shows that the abortions, which is the taking away of babies’

lives, are being misused and overused.

Another reason why to make abortion illegal is that it promotes the societal acceptance of

taking lives while numbing the conscious too. Our conscious should tell us that eating that extra

donut isn’t going to help in the long run and that running buck naked in the dead of winter isn’t

the best idea. Similarly, “Columbine Happens Every Day” by Michael Chapman explains that

abortion is a “sin to humanity” and should be “stopped before the mothers realize what they are

doing”. It also shows how it promotes a society that is “insensible to unborn babies being killed”.

Chapman goes on to explain that how abortion is being done yearly at more than 500,000 babies.

This again shows why abortion should be illegal because it shows the inhumanity of abortions

and how abortions should be illegal.

If one million babies dying in two years isn’t sad enough, Stuart W G Derbyshire says

that they actually may feel pain during their termination. “Current theories of pain consider an

intact cortical system to be both necessary and sufficient for pain experience. In support are
functional imaging studies showing that activation within a network of cortical regions correlates

with reported pain experience. Furthermore, cortical activation can generate the experience of

pain even in the absence of actual noxious stimulation.” he explains. Though some say that since

the parts of the brain that correspond to pain have not yet developed so the fetuses don’t feel pain

but no one actually knows if they do. The fact that there is a possibility that the fetuses feel pain

is just plain inhumane. Is this not reason enough to make abortion illegal.

Some people may argue that abortion is that many religious organizations and people of

faith support women's reproductive choice. Though some religions are pro-choice such as, the

United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church, and the Unitarian Universalist Association of

Congregations, still more religions are against. The Hindu Kaushitaki Upanishad states that

abortion is an equivalent misdeed to “killing one’s own parents”. Almost all translations of the

Bible say, “If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but

there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands

and the court allows. 23 But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life...” This really

shows how abortion is illegal because even the Bible, which is for the biggest religion on the

planet says that the killing of fetuses is punishable by death or even your parents.

To conclude, one million babies are dying in two years due to abortion. To help

humanity, abortion should be illegal. Not only the fact that they are being killed, but because it

degrades the mind parents should accept the responsibility that comes with producing a child and

the child shouldn’t be the one that is punished for the mistake of the parent(s). Also, abortions

(especially multiple) promote the societal acceptance of taking lives, numbing the conscious too.

Adding on, abortion is a downright, inhumane, disgusting act and the chance that babies feel pain
while an abortion is taking place is another reason that shows it is inhumane. For the most part,

abortion should be made illegal.
