Jointing procedure
U-PVC electrical conduits can be joined together or with fittings by means of solvent cementing
method, providing a chemically fused joint.
- The solvent cement we recommend to be used for jointing Electrical conduits with fittings is
parabond P- 8.
- The conduit must be cut off at right angles.
- The outside surface of the conduit and the inside surface of the fitting must be Cleaned from
any obvious dirt by dry and clean cloth. It should be dry before the solvent cement is applied.
- A full layer of solvent cement is immediately applied to the conduit end equal to the depth of
the fitting’s socket.
- A medium layer of cement is then applied to the conduit or fitting socket. The cement should
not puddle wherever a socket is cemented, the area beyond the socket should not be coated
with cement and it should not be allowed to run down in to the inside of the conduits or fittings.
- The two parts must be assembled quickly and while the cement is still fluid, they must be held
in one position without movement for a short while (30 seconds) until initial bonding has taken
place.
- To avoid overheating in summer temperatures, the jointing area must be protected from the
sun light. At high temperatures, the cementing procedure should be completed within 2
minutes. In summer, it is recommended to start cementing in the early morning hours.
- The excess bead and cement from juncture of conduit and fitting must be wiped off with a
clean cloth .
Expansion and contraction
U-PVC conduits like any other piping materials undergo length changes as a result of
temperature variations above and below the installation temperature. The change in pipe length
depends on the co-efficient of linear expansion, the length of pipe and the temperature
variations.
In case of suspended conduits installations, which are subject to variations of temperature,
special care is given to consider expansion or contraction.
Example of determining ΔL
Length of pipe, L = 10 m
Temperature difference ΔT = 20 0C
ΔL = 10 x 20 x 0.08 = 16 mm
Pipe clamps
U-PVC suspended conduits need to be supported at specific intervals, depending on the
temperature and the size of the conduit. These intervals are specified in Table 3.
When the conduit saddles or clamps are mounted, the inside diameter of the clamps must be
in size that allow length changes of the pipe at the specified points .
Horizontal
d
20 ℃ 30 ℃ 40 ℃ 50 ℃
20 85 70 50 support
25 90 75 55 45
32 100 85 65 50
40 110 100 80 60
50 125 115 95 70
Note: .
- conduits sizes up to 25 mm can be bended using proper spring according to the conduit size,
for bigger sizes manufactured bends can be used
