An undergraduate design project submitted to the faculty of the Department of Computer

and Electronics Engineering, College of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite
State University, Indang, Cavite, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) Contribution
No.CEIT 2017-18-2-235. Prepared under the supervision of Engr. Ronald P. Peña.

INTRODUCTION

In the daily routine of life, electricity is essential and necessary to every individual.

All civilized places use electricity to ease consumers with respect to their needs. The

demand of electricity increased as the population increases, hence, renewable energy

resources discovered and enhanced since commercial power generation system causes

pollution to the environment enormously. Due to the pollution caused by the commercial

power generation system to the environment and to maximize the limited budget of the

barangay, Renewable Energy is the suggested primary source of power generation in

proposed barangay hall.

Furthermore, the design with combine of commercial power system and the

possible renewable energy on the location of barangay Hall can come up to best result with

regards to the advantages of both resources. By the end of this study, the client can use

this paper as a reference to the electrical system of the barangay hall and can choose the

most practical, efficient and feasible source of electricity. The Electrical System Designs

of Proposed Barangay Hall in Alulod, Indang, Cavite aims to evaluate the different
2

electrical system designs between renewables and commercial power generator to lead

efficiency for the clients to maximize the best practice in terms of electrical consumptions.

The study aims to create a complete electrical system with the use of renewable energy and

commercial power system and make a recommendation for the best configuration of the

proposed hybrid system.

Significance of the Study

The significance of this study was to design an electrical system that promoting the

renewable energy to be the primary source of energy and design an electrical system for

the barangay hall. For the author of this research, this was an application of all lessons

taught in subjects about electrical system designs. For the students, this serve as their

reference on studying on designing an electrical system according to standards, using

renewable energy as source of electrical system, and an efficient electrical system. Also,

for the future researcher, this study can be their reference. Also, for the barangay hall, this

design can be implemented to the electrical system of the actual construction of the

barangay hall. Lastly, Cavite State University will benefit this study through the

implementation of the design. This study provides sufficient data to support the

development of an efficient system that can save money and resources in operation.

Objective of the Study

This study generally aimed to design an electrical system for the proposed

Barangay hall of Alulod, Indang, Cavite.

Specifically, this study aimed to:

1. design light illumination;

3

2. determine electrical loads;

3. design a complete electrical plan using the following:

a. Utility Only

b. Solar Only

c. Utility-Solar

4. conduct a cost estimation for the electrical plan; and

5. compute for the return of investment of the hybrid system.

Scope and Limitation of the study

The scope of the study was to design an electrical system design for proposed

barangay hall of Alulod in Indang, Cavite. This was a design project where in designing an

electrical system of the final architectural plan proposed by the PPU for the barangay hall.

The illumination design, Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS), and specification of

different loads such as lighting loads, air-conditioning unit, water pump motor, Automatic

Transfer Switch and Photovoltaic Solar System were covered by this study. Also, the

computations for the voltage drop and short circuit were covered by this study. Lastly, the

cost estimation and return of investment for the hybrid system were computed at the end

of the study.

The study was limited to electrical system design of the final architectural plan

proposed by PPU for the barangay hall; For the electrical equipment such as air-

conditioning unit, water pump motor, Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS), and

Automatic Transfer Switch was limited only on determining the rating and specifications

that related to electrical system and the computations and designing of the electrical
4

equipment were excluded in this design project. Also, other details about different plans

for the construction of barangay hall were also excluded. Lastly, the study was limited only

in design and implanting of this design will not be covered.

Time and Place of the Study

The study was conducted at Cavite State University, Indang Cavite from January

2018 to May 2018. The complete sets of electrical system design were presented at the

Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering(DCEE), College of Engineering and

Information Technology (CEIT.

Definition of terms

Electrical Loads. This are the loads powered by the source of power in each

electrical system design. The study classified the electrical loads as Priority and Non-

priority. The priority loads are the loads that needed in day and night and non-priority loads

are the loads that needed in day only.

FDAS. Stands for fire detection and alarm system. It is the sensor for the system in

fire protection and prevention.

Hybrid System. This is a combination of two systems with the used of two sources

of power.

Illumination. This is the level of the intensity of light in each room of the barangay

hall. This is the number of lumen per square meter or lux.

5

Lighting layout. This is the design of lighting with the corresponding circuit

number which includes the number of luminaires, spacing, position, switch control and

how much power will be consumed by all the luminaires.

Load schedule. It is an estimate of the instantaneous electrical loads operating in

a system design.

Utility Company. This pertains to the source of power or electricity in the electrical

system. i.e. MERALCO.

Power layout. It is a design with the corresponding circuit numbers which consist

of the positions of all the outlets based on utilization and demand of the loads.

Project return of investment. It is used to measure the savings/gain of the cost of

the proposed design. It is also used in determining whether the proposed design will yield

positive financial benefits.

Single line diagram. It is a diagram that uses single lines and symbols to indicate

the paths and components of the system.

Solar Panels. It is semi-conductor devices used to collect the light radiation coming

from the suns and uses as one of the source of power in the barangay hall.
