II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

An introduction to the basic concepts and tenets of political science focusing on politics,
governance and government. The course also tackles the 1897 Philippine Constitution-the fundamental
law of the republic. The course is focused on providing the interpretations on the constitution
specifically. The executive branch, the Legislative Branch, the Judicial Branch and Bill of Rights. This is a
three unit course in the Philippine education system mandated by the Commission on Higher Education
(CHED) for the tertiary level.

III. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the semester, the student are expected to manifest the following competencies:

1. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the provision on the constitution by developing an


analysis paper on the function of the branches of government and right of the people.

2. Analyze the basic concepts, principles, doctrines applied in the existence of the state.
3. Internalize and exercise general rights and constitutional rights enshrined in the law.

4. Classify competently the branches of government and the constitutional commissions.

5. Demonstrate the spirit of intellectual maturity by subscribing to the principles of the state.

6. Show interest in the development of the fundamental law of the land and its concepts.

7. Manifest the application of the rights and duties of the citizens

8. Keep patriotism, nationalism and love to the citizenry and the state.
