ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS
PART – A (5 x 2 = 10 marks)
1.What is zeroth law and path functions? Give examples.
2.What is thermodynamics state of system?
3.What is entropy? How is it defined and calculated?
4.What do you know about increases of entropy?
5.Write the effect of compression ratio on engine thermal efficiency of an otto cycle with a suitable graph
PART – B (5 x 8 = 40 marks)

1. A stationary mass of gas is compressed without friction from initial state of 0.3m3 & 1.05 bar pressure
remaining constant during the process. There is a transfer of 37.6 KJ of heat from the gas during the process.
How much does the internal energy of the gas change?

2. In an air standard diesel cycle the compression ratio is 16 & at the beginning of isentropic compression the
temperature is 150 c & the pressure is 0.1Mpa. heat is added until the temperature at the end of constant
pressure process in 14800 c calculate (i) cut off ratio (ii) Heat supplied per kg of air (iii) cycle efficiency & (iv)
mean effective pressure.

3. State & prove carnot theorem?.

4. Prove the equivalence of Kelvin planck & clausius statements of II law of thermodynamics.

5. Discuss the effect of inter cooling & Reheating on Brayton cycle.
