Part A: Career Interest

Interview:

In order to gather the required information for this report, I met with Mr. Salem Almuttawa.
The meeting was held March 26, 2018, at Crust and Creama coffee shop.

Mr. Salem is working as a Tahleeq officer in Airport Operations division. Tahleeq is a


program that is managed by Bahrain Airport Company (BAC). As Mr. Salem said, Tahleeq
supports the aviation industry. Also, it takes care of the new airport management.

Mr. Salem handles the terminal operations. He deals with the stakeholders such as airlines,
courts, customs and police officers. Also, he deals with tender’s projects. Moreover, he is
responsible for the day-to-day issues and airport recovery from operation side.

The aviation industry has a bright future. It is the only transport mode that takes you
everywhere in a short period of time. Bahrain International Airport compares their service,
performance and technology levels to the other international airports in order to keep
improving. They make sure that the airport operates 24/7. Also, making the security
procedures smooth but at the same time hard to pass. Being a Tahleeq officer gives you the
opportunity to develop quickly as every two years you reach a higher level or position that
leads to career improvement.

Bahrain will witness a huge growth in the aviation industry by building the new airport. The
new airport will be five times bigger than the current airport. In result, there will be a huge
number of job vacancies. Moreover, there will be good job opportunities for the future as
Bahrain International Company is increasing the number of Bahraini employees. At the start,
the employee can get a salary between 600 to 700 BHD. Later on, the salary can reach to a
five digits number.

Required Skills:

In order to work as a Tahleeq officer in Airport Operation division, Mr. Salem suggests
having several skills. Some of these skills are:

1- Negotiation skills: Negotiation is the ability to make a successful agreement while


preventing conflict (SkillsYouNeed, 2017).
Having negotiation skills is essential for this position as the officer must ensure the best
service quality and stakeholders services with less cost.

2- Decision Making: It is the way of solving problems by choosing the best and most suitable
solutions (BusinessDictionary, 2018).
When working in the airport, having decision-making skills is vital, as the officer needs to
solve some on spot problems or decisions.

3- Meeting deadline: it is the management of completing a task in a specific time range. The
aviation industry is a sensitive industry that works 24/7. Therefore, it is vital to meet
deadlines in dealing with customers or providing the full details to the stakeholders. Any
delays in one of the tasks will result in delays in other following tasks.

4-Planning and organizing: It is directing the work to the main company targets and goals.
Also, it can mean having all the work done in an organized way (Chicago State University,
n,d).
The aviation industry in Bahrain is growing as it is going to establish a new airport.
Therefore, planning and organizing are vital, as the current airport needs organizing,
monitoring and maintenance. Also, the new airport needs management and using building
tactics.

5- Accuracy and speed: Accuracy and speed are two different skills that are required to use
in the aviation industry. Accuracy means completing the work perfectly as it should be.
However, speed means completing the work exactly on the required time and the quality is
not important. They are both vital as activates are linked to each other. Any delay in one of
the departments or operations will affect other operations and departments (Jonhines,
2015).

6- Communication skills: it is the ability to have a sufficient written and oral communications
between the employee, customers, leaders or even the other working employees. While
dealing with stockholders, it is vital to have good communication skills in order to build
strong relationships (Cleverism, n,d).

Recommendations for a similar job:

In order to get a similar job, Mr. Salem advised me to have basic aviation knowledge
because the operation in the airport are so complicated and needs previous knowledge in
order to operate effectively. Also, it helps to minimize the risks. Moreover, the candidate
must be clear of any criminal records. In addition, have good communication skills in both
Arabic and English. Furthermore, presentation skills will be required, as it will help the
candidate to communicate effectively and show preview their ideas to the customers and
stakeholders in a clear and effective way.

Research:

Job Requirements:

Airport Operations Officer is a position that makes sure all the airport operations are
functioning well. It manages the airport services and airfield. Working as an airport
operation officer means having a shifts work, this means the employee can be working at
any time even if in midnights and holidays (Airport Council International - North America,
2018).

In order to have a similar possession in Tahleeq, the candidate must have leadership,
initiative and the ability to think outside the box. Also, having the ability to communicate in
Arabic and English verbally and non verbally. Moreover, a bachelor degree is required in
aviation management, architecture, information technology and the various types of
engineering such as mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. Having a previous one-year
experience would be useful but it is not vital (Bahrain Airport Company, 2018).

Information about the industry:

Since 2008, Bahrain International Airport has been supervised and controlled by Bahrain
Airport Company (BAC). Bahrain Airport Company has been offering cargo and passengers
services. They also make sure to grab the airlines attraction (Bahrain International Airport,
2018).

The aviation industry is facing a huge growth, as building a new terminal will expand the
airport. Also, there are more stakeholders that are interested in the aviation investment
(Wray, 2017).

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) started a program that is called Tahleeq. Tahleeq is a trainee
program for the new graduates. It is under the involvement of Tamkeen and Ministry of
Transportation (MoT). Tahleeq will provide fresh graduates with an overview of their
company with specific details. Also, they will be illustrating and showing their work
environment. Fresh graduates will get the opportunity to apply their skills and by the help of
Tahleeq. Moreover, they will be able to expand their skills by providing daily assignments
training. As the company organizes what their goals and objectives are, this will help fresh
graduates a better understanding of what the operations will be like in the workplace. In
addition, it will be able to aim for future success with the firm.

Tahleeq targets Bahrainis that are interested and qualified in Information Technology (IT),
Engineering, Facilities Management and Airport Operations (Bahrain Airport Company,
2018).

Part B: People Interest

Analysis:

The future of aviation industry:

The PEST analysis tool helps to show the big picture of political, economic, socio-cultural and
technological alternations and adjustments in the job or industry. It gives you the chance to
benefit from the different opportunities in the field (Mind tools content team, 2018).

In this assignment, PEST is used to show the future of aviation industry.

Economical: Rise in the aviation and country economy. The aviation industry is facing a huge
growth, as building a new terminal will expand the airport. Also, there are more
stakeholders that are interested in the aviation investment (Wray, 2017).

Socio-cultural: Gender equalization. By equalizing between the men and women jobs, there
will be more job opportunities for women than before. The women now can work in the
aviation sector and her contribution is required (Nagy, 2013).

Technology: New advanced equipment. Due to the new terminal that will be ready by 2018,
the Bahrain Airport will be more advanced and will have more new technologies to use such
as more advanced software. Moreover, everything is being digitalized (Bonnar et al., 2017).

Reflection:

Advantages and disadvantages:

Working in a similar job brings advantages and disadvantages. Each person can classify an
element in a different way. For example, my disadvantages might be one of the advantages
for another person. On one hand, working as an officer in airport division builds a good
relationship between the employee and the other employees, employers and stakeholders.
Also, the salaries of the aviation industry are higher than some other industries. Moreover,
the employee gets training 4-5 times a year in relation to the rapid improvement in the
aviation industry and its technology. On the other hand, working as an officer in airport
operations division means having a lot of responsibilities. As the aviation industry and
Bahrain International Airport is working 24/7 this means that you can be called for
emergencies any time. Also, it involves working outdoors which is a bit not one of my
preferable options.

Job interest:
After the interview, research and analysis I am still interested in this job as it has advantages
more than disadvantages. Also, I love the aviation sector and I am welling and preferring to
work in the airport. Moreover, I love working with people and know new people, as this will
build a good relationship for me.
