 Scientific research “carried out” by government is a reasonable expectation but I’m not
entirely sure many people think that it should be “controlled” by governments. I personally believe
that private companies should be given their own freedom in doing research, but with sufficient
and proper monitoring from the government.

On one hand, it is true that scientific research should not be only conducted by the
government. The main reason is that the scope of scientific research is diverse and wide, and
private companies could cover up some research which is not carried out by the governments. And
also other people don’t trust governments to fund or carry out research because they worry that
scientific research funded by the government will be influenced by politics.

On the other hand, although private companies are given the right to do scientific research,
they must be strictly monitored by the governments. Because, some people don’t trust private
companies to carry out research because they worry that private companies are more concerned
about profit than truth, and the profit motive can influence methods used as well as the outcomes
of research. So it necessary to be scrutiny by the government

Therefore private companies should be allowed in doing research. However, I do agree the
research that is done by private companies must be reviewed, and monitored by the governments
in order to avoid any misappropriation and I do not think government can “control” scientific
research from reaching private hands. It just isn’t feasible nor advisable for any country.
