HISTORY Roberta De Jesus ES (formerly Bignay ES)

Schooling in Barrio Bignay started in 1933 where the community chapel was used as
classroom. This was during the American Regime and its first teacher was Mr. Ambrocio
Bernabe, a native of Llano, Caloocan, Rizal. It was also during this time when a certain
Roberta de Jesus try to sell half hectare of land along Hulo Street to be used as school
site with monthly amortization of (2.00)pesos. A year after with no payment received from
the government, Aling Roberta decided to donate the land.
In 1934, two classrooms were built made of bamboo and nipa and pupils coming
from Llano, Deparo, and Bagumbong, all from Caloocan, Rizal and natives from Bignay and
Punturin of Polo, Bulacan were the first clientele. After Mr. Bernie, Mr. manuel Garicia, a
teacher from Pace, Obando, Blanca was next teacher. Mr. Jose Urrutia of Deparo,
replaced Mr. Urrutia.
A multi-grade system of education was then implemented. First complete
elementary started in school year 1949-1950. Mr. Pablo Daradal was the first Teacher-in-
charge assigned. Among the teachers during that time were Ms. Pacita catada, Ms. Pilar
Lopez, Ms. Ester Salvador, Ms. Carmen Daradal wife of the Principal, Mrs. Lolita Eulogio
and Ms. Lydia Andaya. First graduation was held last April, 1950. After the term of Mr.
Daradal as TIC, his place was taken over by Mrs.Victoria I. Buencamino in 1966 and
succeeded by Mrs. Aurora suatengco, Mrs. Remedios M. Pineda, Mrs. Lolita A. Rillera, Mrs.
Julia Magbitang and Mrs. Adelfa R. Lustanas, all of them were assigned TIC.
The first Head Teacher assigned was Mr. Edison A. Pillejera and served until march,
2003. In July 15, 2003 with swift and avast modernization, school buildings were built and
teachers and pupils amplified. Mr. Eduardo Q. Lita was then assigned as the first School
Head with Principal item. During the year, Bignay ES shares the lot with Bignay National
High School.
In July 2007, Ms. Consuelo M. Santiago took over as the new principal, it was then
when Bignay ES acquired the 2 buildings occupied by High School, since they departed to
their newly obtained Lot and School Buildings just 400 meters away. Mrs. Adelfa R.
Lustanas came back to serve as principal in May, 2011. In her hands lies 75 teachers and
more than 4000 pupils.
In 2012 the City Government awarded a new 3 storey, 9 classrooms building to
accommodate the rapid increase in capacity of the school. It was in 2012 when the school
altered its name from Bignay to Roberta De Jesus. This was in honor of Aling Roberta’s
kindness and generosity. November of the same year, Mrs. Ofelia Santiago took over as
the new principal and run the school for 13 months. At the moment RDJES is considered as
one of the fastest growing school in Valenzuela in terms of personnel and pupils population.
In February 3, 2014, a young and energetic principal with an optimistic and open-
minded principal in the person of Mr. Emil R. Mamiit served and equipped teachers with
modern techniques and strategies and indulge every Robertans Educators for a quality
education.
