FIELD INSTALLATION TESTS

VISUAL AND MECHANICAL INSPECTION

REMARKS
DESCRIPTION
Yes No
1. Check circuit breaker for proper mounting, conductor size and feeder designation.
2. Inspect case for cracks or other defects.
3. Check tightness of connection with torque wrench in accordance with manufacturer's
recommendations or requirements of P-000.
4. Operate circuit breaker to insure smooth operation.

RECOMMENDED OVER-CURRENT TRIP TEST VALUES

600 700-1200 25 450 --
600 1400-2500 25 600 --
Note: MCP’s only have magnetic pickup. Therefore, only the instantaneous trip is checked. Few circuit
breakers rated less that 600 amps have thermal and magnetic trip units. Usually they contain only thermal trip
units. Therefore, only the long delay or thermal trip time is checked.

REMARKS
DESCRIPTION
YES NO
1. Measure contact resistance. For CB having rating 600A and higher value in excess
of 200 micro-ohms or deviation of more than 20 % shall be investigated. For CB less
than 600A value may be higher and deviation should not be greater than 5%
2. To perform the instantaneous test current should be injected to the breaker is 5-16
times of its manufacturer rated value mentioned on the name plate.
3. Perform time-current characteristic test by passing 300% of rated current through
each pole separately. Record result on field data sheet. All trip times shall fall within
the value attached in the above table.
4. Check instantaneous (magnetic) pickup current by run-up of pulse method. Clearing
time and pick-up current level should be with in manufacturer’s published value.
5. Insulation resistance should be determined pole to pole, line to line across the pole,
and pole to ground. The test value @1000 volts DC insulation should not be less
than 50 meg-ohms
6. Check auxiliary device that may be supplied i.e shunt trip, ground fault & under volt.
