2018 COLLECTION
Our Vision
As an Indigenous-owned company, our vision is to build a vibrant,
global brand that makes a significant impact in Indigenous communities.

Thank you for walking with us

The Original Winter Boot ™
Mukluk is an Indigenous word for winter boot. Our ancestors created mukluks
thousands of years ago to survive and thrive in the coldest places on Earth.
We’re proud to continue the tradition.

Art meets

Technology
When it came time to develop footwear for the city,
we challenged Vibram®, the world leader in high-performance
rubber soles, to design a sole that could withstand the effects
of cold and high-abrasion urban environments (min. 150 NBS).

Vibram® used 70 years of history and a rugged TC1 compound

to provide a durable, low-profile sole that could also serve as a
canvas for an Indigenous story.

Together we build quality and tradition into every step.

About the Artist

Heather Endall (Wolf Clan, Peter Ballantyne Cree
Nation) is inspired by her maternal ancestors who
included traditional birch bark biters and medicine
women. After obtaining a Fine Arts degree, Heather
embraced her heritage by learning beading, medicine
picking, Indigenous crafts and attending
powwows with her two children.

Storyboot School
Classes in our boardroom and beyond

In 2014 we partnered with Indigenous artisans to offer five-week courses

in mukluk and moccasin-making in our Winnipeg boardroom.
We called this “The Storyboot School.”

In 2015, for the first time, the Storyboot School was offered outside
of the Manitobah boardroom. Universities, museums and community
organizations embraced the opportunity to host Indigenous-led courses,
where students could learn a timeless craft while raising the profile
of Indigenous artistry within the public sphere.

In 2018, we continue to expand our reach both nationally and locally,

offering courses in remote communities and developing a digital archive
of instructional videos, accessible to people everywhere.

Bear Sole
The bear paw reminds us of the sacred
teaching of “Courage.” Our people have taken
courageous steps in recent years and have
left footprints that will last an eternity.

The igloo (“iglu” in Inuktitut) is a type of

shelter built of snow, originally by the Inuit.
The igloo represents our ancestors’ inventive
use of all nature’s materials.

Corrine Hunt
FOR

Corrine Hunt, designer of the Olympic

Medals for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver,
partnered with Manitobah to produce
a collection inspired by Anisalaga, her
great-great grandmother, her West-Coast
background and her reverence for
the natural world.

Beautifully designed for the Gatherer

mukluk, Corrine created two styles: Bear
and Hummingbird & Flower. These new
boots blend the authentic Indigenous spirit
of Manitobah with Corrine’s West Coast
heritage and unique First Nations lineage.

30
Corrine’s Designs “The leather is soooooo soft!”

Hummingbird & Flower

To Corrine, the hummingbird symbolizes
peace, community and love.
“The hummingbird has a pleasant energy;
it is unlike any other bird,” she says. The
Hummingbird and Flower design reminds us
of the connectivity between all living things;
the hummingbird draws from the flower as
the flower draws from the Earth. We are
bound through our connectedness and are
therefore bound to care for each other –
just as the Earth, the flower and the
hummingbird are bound and connected.
