For instance, the more intense business competition in the port terminal business line,
Samudra Indonesia should have diversified strategy to maintain its highly developed business
position today. The strategy can be seen from the problems that often arise in the port of
Tanjung Priok. The problems that still occur at the port of Tanjung Priok at this time is the
over-stacking of containers in the port field. The over-stacking is caused because the container
owners does not have a warehouse to store its goods so that there is accumulation in port.
Samudera Indonesia can take this opportunity to open a new unit business by renting out
warehouses for container owners.
PT Samudera Terminal Indonesia also can use Joint Venture strategy which is two or
more companies join their forces to gain a tactical and strategic edge in the market. So, STI can
access to new markets and distribution networks, increased capacity, sharing of risks and costs
with a partner access to greater resources, including specialized staff, technology and finance.
For instance, STI founded PT Samudera Sarana Terminal (SST), a joint venture with IT
Portlink which is established specifically to ensure the readiness and availability of loading and
unloading equipment at Samudera Terminal.
