1st Week (Dec.

11 – 15)

“To teach is to touch lives forever”, this is a well-known quotation for every
educator. It is indispensable to superior instruction and knowledge. It is like a water
from river that flows endlessly as teachers linger their voyage to make stimulus to
every student.

Before we were deployed in the Laboratory High School Department, I was thinking
about what could happen during my experience in practice teaching because I
never thought of myself being a teacher someday. I have no perception of standing
and teaching in front of the class. However, I was planned to be a student teacher-
the first stepping stone towards being a great professional teacher someday.

All throughout the week, I was thinking how will I be able to be a good student
teacher in MinSCAT- Laboratory High School. We met our principal, Sir Ponciano S.
Abdon, who gave us our subject to be taught as well as the schedule. I was blessed
being assigned to teach Mathematics subjects in Grade 10 and Grade 7 high school
students. My cooperating teachers were Ms. Ma. Cristina P. Reyes and Ms. Jarah
Jayne C. Reyes. I was also assigned to Grade 10 as my advisory class with Ms.
Rachelle Ann D. de Torres as my adviser.

During this week, I grasped that observing carefully at the sprouting life of
educators, from their initial meetings with learners, through mid-career tasks, on
to their maturing years in the profession, it can be seen that their desire for
teaching empowers them to teach at their finest. Furthermore, the personality
towards further works, either expecting for a return or not, is essential to keep the
water flowing.

2nd Week (Dec. 18 – 22)

This was the week wherein we, student teachers, were part of the extra-curricular
activities in the Laboratory High School. We were assigned to assist the students
during their Christmas presentation in Plaza. We were also assigned to prepare a
song and dance number.
In this week occurred the Christmas house 2017 wherein each classroom in high
school department would be decorated in line with the spirit of Christmas. I
assisted my students in Grade 10 during the preparation of our Christmas House.

Additionally, the Christmas party was held. This became my preliminary point of
being flowed as I relished the day with my advisory class and the faculty of the high
school department. Nourishing the desire for teaching involves a lot of
interconnected aspects, ranging from enriched competencies to perform the tasks
and responsibilities to individual qualities that set teachers apart from other
careers.

3rd Week (Jan. 3 – 5)

It was certainly a pleasure arriving the class of seasoned, decent and well-breed
Grade 10 students. I already discerned that from the very start, they are just
behaving as they are in accordance with the teacher’s standpoint. In order to
maintain this kind of setting, I designed my rules and regulations inside the class to
be followed until the end of my student teaching.

My best rule was simply stated as “No late”. This was a very challenging rule for my
students since that most of my meetings was on the first period of their class. A lot
of my students were being sampled by this rule. When the time was exactly 7:30
am, the late comers were not able to attend my class. I knew that this was not okay,
but I would implement this rule to enable my students to develop their discipline
and punctuality in my class.

The same week, I started my formal class with my Grade 10 students. I discussed
about “Solving the Radius and Center of a Circle” and “Graphing the Equation of
Circles” in Grade 10. I gave my students a bunch of activities through group
activities.
4th Week (Jan. 8 – 12)

Although I have started my formal class last week, I always tell myself to get relaxed
and calm during the teaching-learning process. Knowing that practice teaching was
not an easy task, I have to be accountable enough and prepare a daily lesson plan.
I must be ingenious on my approaches, strategies and instructional materials to
capture the attention of my students.

While I was in the moment of teaching, I felt that my uncertainties had vanished so
far. However, my students were really the noisiest and undisciplined among the
rest. I was thinking that I can change their habits. As a teacher, I would inspire and
influence them in my own way. I swore to myself, this will be my great duty in the
institution. I will make a great difference.

5th Week (Jan. 15 – 19)

This week was the Quarterly Assessment week. I was really fascinated that I
experienced making examination for my students. I remembered when I was still a
student, I dreamt of making my own test. I had this mentality of making my
students to feel the difficulty and pressure of my exam. Now, I had this opportunity,
but I realized that making examination questions was more difficult than answering
it. Well, that’s the circle of life, I was once a student and now I am the teacher.

As a student teacher, I was given the duty to think of diverse collaborative and
cooperative activities that will improve the retention of my students as preparation
for their Third Quarterly Assessment. I was also given the chance to implement my
examination. I was really happy to sit in the teacher’s table while my students were
busy in answering my test. I was grateful that I surpassed the time when I was in
my student’s place during the examination.
Fortuitously, I was able to meet the ultimatum of my students as mirrored with the
results of their examination. Only few students failed the exams and gladly majority
of them not only passed but acquired high grades.

6th Week (Jan. 22 – 26)

During my practice teaching experience, I learned many things which will outline
the mode I teach for years to come. One of the most significant things I learned
during student teaching is to be assured. Before, I was a little nervous with my
students, even while presenting them information. After a couple weeks, I was
more relaxed in front of the class. The experience has taught me that students are
much more likely to be motivated into the class and listen to when I arrive with an
optimistic and confident appearance.

I sensed that I and my students would be fun once I gained my confidence in the
class. My augmented confidence levels definitely rendered my students to perform
better in the class. They also accomplished the problems well with ease. All
throughout, I learned that respect and confidence will go along in terms of
connecting and maintaining relationships with your students, which improves the
classroom atmosphere and performance.

This week, our principal conducted observation in my class of Grade 10. As

expected, I really felt the anxiety and nervousness inside. However, as the teaching-
learning process went on, I felt that the butterflies inside my stomach have flown
away. I delivered my lesson successfully and confidently. I discerned that my
confidence sprouted elsewhere during the class. During my post-conference with
our principal, he emphasized that I was confident and relaxed during the class. He
added that I delivered the lesson with ease. He also accentuated that I was like
teaching in my final demonstration. Because of these positive feedbacks, my spirit
was enthralled and captivated. I was motivated to teach confidently inside the
classroom.
7th Week (Jan. 29 – Feb. 2)

It was another week of teaching. I prepared a good lesson plan and prepared it to
my cooperating teacher. I had this feeling that I can attain and deliver the objectives
and lesson to my class, respectively.

The teaching-learning experience went well because every ideas and principles
presented were anchored with real-life situation. The students were also
participative during group activities and board-work activities. They were very
happy with the title of my activity, such as “Kahit COUNTING Pagtingin” which was
about Addition and Multiplication Principle of Counting. Although I got a smooth
transition of the lesson, I did not finish my lesson on time but I was assured that I
attained my objectives well.

On the other hand, I improved my confidence in teaching. I was able to build a

concrete and harmonious relationship with my students. I was also able to
distinguish their individual differences and multiple intelligences. I was really
adjusting with my class because my students were really showing respect and
reverence.

8th Week (Feb. 5 – 9)

I heard once from my student that their class really hate Mathematics. Before, she
confessed that their section doesn’t really want to have a student teacher in
Mathematics. They were attached with Ma’am Cristina Reyes. Now, my students
were really fond of listening to my discussion. I always emphasized to my class that
Mathematics loves you. Mathematics is fun and easy to learn. I discerned that they
were starting to love Mathematics. As a student teacher, I was really grateful that
I can influence my students by erasing their perspective that Math is hard.

This week was another week of enhancing my teaching skills. I introduced a new
topic which was about “Permutation”. Majority of my students had no idea on how
to deal with this topic. To formally start my discussion, I gave a real-life example. I
demonstrated and presented the solution. Afterwards, I grouped them wherein
each group had two or three students who really understood the lesson. I asked
them to collaborate and participate with each other. My students were blissful with
the title of my activity, such as “Kahit PERMUTE-i na ang Buhok ko”. At the end of
the day, my students had a bunch of new concepts and information which they will
bring elsewhere.

9th Week (Feb. 12 – 15)

A lot of people expressed that we are passionate when we love what we are doing
because we know there is a purpose and meaning in what we do. Passion leads to
commitment when one gets engrossed and devoted to the feeling of overflowing
to others.

On February 15, 2018, the school held a junior’s promenade. I was tasked to be one
of the Masters of Ceremony together with my co-student teacher. This was my first
time to be on stage and speak in front of everyone. The night became a night of
glamour and sweetness as the Grade 9 and 10 students of the Laboratory High
School entered the hall wearing their sparkling gowns and best tuxedos. I was really
grateful that I danced all girls in my advisory class which was Grade 10.

On the other hand, I felt excited and at the same time nervous as the schedule of
my final demonstration teaching is fast approaching. I got some rumors that our
Campus Administrator would observe in my demonstration.
10th Week (Feb. 19 – 23)

This is the Final Demonstration Week. Our schedule was Monday, Wednesday and
Friday. I was assigned to perform my demonstration teaching in Friday, 8:30 – 9:30
in the morning. I don’t know but starting from Monday, the nervousness and
anxiety were more approaching than confidence. The rumors were becoming
reality. A lot of directors of our campus were said to observe my final
demonstration teaching, including our Campus Administrator. I felt the pressure
inside my bones. I felt the tense and stress as the days were passing by.

After 9 weeks of training here at MinSCAT, the day where my life would be judged
had come. I held my demonstration teaching on Grade 10 students. My topic was
about “Combination”. I felt nervous in the demonstration because my observers
where my Math Instructors such as Doc Enj and Mam Cruzado. My anxiety was just
on the start of my discussion. There was a smooth transition of lesson in the class.
There was a fruitful student and teacher interaction. However, at the middle part
of my demo, I looked at the door and guess what, I saw our Campus Administrator
entering the classroom. I don’t know what to feel. I knew I was panicking and
freaking that time. Due to my severe and extreme nervousness, I forgot to
generalize. Although I forgot it, I perceived that my final demonstration was
successful. I felt relieved when I handshake with Doc Son and she congratulated
me. I felt like a giant fish bone was pricked out from my heart.

With the inspiration and supports of my students from Grade 10, fellow student
teachers and especially my cooperating teacher, Ms. Ma. Cristina P. Reyes, I made
my day more fun. I did my best to share my knowledge, touch the heart of every
learner, and make them learn while enjoying. Over-all, my final demonstration
teaching ended up with flying colors.
11th Week (Feb. 26 – Mar. 2)

Although my Final Demonstration Teaching was successful, I still continued to teach

in Grade 10. I was able to apply my learnings from my lot of weeks of stay in Lab
High. Of course, I assured that I will never forget to generalize after the discussion.
I learned from my mistakes in my Final Demo.

Throughout the week, I discussed about the Introduction to Probability. I was so

glad that my students were coping up easily in the class discussion. They were
getting high scores from my quizzes. I perceived that my students had fallen in love
with Mathematics because they were not expressing any difficulty from any topic.

The same week, every classroom was decorated into various booths for the
preparation of the upcoming Laboratory High School Day. Some of the booths were
Jail Booth, Disco Booth and Marriage Booth. We, student teachers served as judges
of some contest specifically those that were conducted by the Junior Builders.

12th Week (Mar. 5 – 9)

On this week, lots of preparation for the celebration of the Laboratory High School
Day were done. In connection with this celebration, different contests such as
Treasure Hunt were also held and participated by the students. As the highlight of
the celebration, the search for Mr. and Ms. Lab High was also held at the activity
center, March 5. The event was indeed successful with the support of the faculty
members and parents.

On the other hand, I felt joyful and sad at the same time. I felt joyful because this
would be our last week in practice teaching. However, I felt sad because I would
detach from my students in Grade 10. The saying “It is easy to be attached with
your students, but to be detached with them is a long process” was really true. It
was very difficult for me to accept the fact that everything would come to end.

As I finish my voyage in practice teaching, I learned and grown enough to

commence the next episode of my expedition towards what I have never dreamt. I
am looking forward to the lots of opportunities what might come along my way as
I step out of my alma mater. I knew that God would always guide me to the path
he planned to me.

Best Lesson Plan

Lesson plan is said to be the bible of the teacher. It is very sacred for every teacher
in the class. It is said to be the back bone of the teaching and learning process.

A good lesson plan must be made SMART. It must be specific, measurable,

attainable, relevant and time-bounded. In order to establish good lesson, it must
be achieved at the end of the lesson.

This lesson plan is the best among all I have prepared because I was able to create
SMART objectives which resulted to a successful classroom interaction. The
students were able to participate actively during class discussion and collaborate
during group activity. I was also able to prepare activities suited to student’s
attention, thus motivating them to learn the lesson. I used an effective strategy in
order for the students to cope up the lesson easily and clearly. It provides a lot of
opportunities for students to perform in a group. It also provides the opportunity
to learn on their own.

Definitely, in order to attain a successful and effective teaching and learning

process, there must be an excellent lesson plan on how to carry out the lesson all
throughout the period.
Worst Lesson Plan

Indeed, there is no such thing as the flawless lesson. Maybe within a couple of
minutes, the discussion may deviate from a thriving atmosphere to a total boring
and epic fail lesson. Every teacher had at least one lesson that swerved into a
catastrophe one. Nevertheless, mistakes are part of success. It is better to accept
the mistakes wholeheartedly as a comfortable opportunity for improvement.

Why is this my worst lesson plan? I think that this is the worst plan I have prepared
and written because this is my first lesson plan. Even though I organized good
activities and discussion, I was really nervous on being observed by my cooperating
teacher. Instead of relaxing and harmonious environment, everything went dull
and boring. I was expecting that my students can derive the equation of a circle in
standard form through distance formula. As a result, I was the one to explain and
derive the equation. The class went on a pure discussion. The activities were not
accomplished by themselves. My objectives were not met.

Although beside all these flaws, a room for improvement and innovation was
opened and riveted. From this phenomenon, I learned that teachers have their
unique ways of teaching and planning lessons. Despite of these unique strategies
and ways, they shared a common goal: to meet the objectives.
