THE TRUMPET CALL

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives
East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume IV Issue 24 June 17, 2018

Ministry Corner - Scott Kuhnle

I think at this point in time, we are all aware that church attendance, across the entire country,
is declining. In the old days, the majority attended church. Church was the spiritual, moral,
and social center of the community. Times have changed. Today, the majority of people in
our community do not attend church on a regular basis. People no longer come into the
church simply because we open the doors on a Sunday morning. Therefore, we must meet
people where they are and extend the love of Jesus Christ in new ways.
With that in mind, I want to celebrate some of the incredible outreach events that are taking place within the life of this
church. First, my wife (Sarah) and her incredible team of volunteers just completed the 3 rd Annual ESUMC Carnival
Outreach. This event provided a fun and free event for people, and families, in our community. On Saturday June 2 nd,
we saw 250 people enjoying their Saturday afternoon at ESUMC! Now, in today’s day and age, when the majority of
people are not attending church, imagine these 250 people’s reaction to a church, that offered a fun and free event to
ANYONE in the community. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive.
In addition to the Carnival, the Block Party Outreach events started this past Thursday, June 7 th. For the fourth year in
a row we will be on the front lawn and side parking lot of the church, every Thursday from 6:00 – 7:30pm, offering free
hot dogs, hamburgers, and sides to anyone in the community. Again, the idea is to meet people where they are with
the love of Jesus Christ. Each Thursday, as we close the block party, we host a 30-minute worship opportunity,
complete with praise and worship music and a short gospel message. This year, we are off to a great start, as Doug
Malefyt and Zachery Uporsky brought the worship and message OUTSIDE to the side parking lot. By moving the
worship opportunity outside (in the past this worship has been in the main sanctuary), we hope more people will attend.
If the first week is any indication, we are in for a great summer of Block Party Outreaches!
Finally, I want to bring to your attention, that we saw several new faces in worship this past Sunday, June 10 th. When I
greeted these new faces on Sunday, I was told that the Carnival and the Block Party were the reasons they decided to
check out worship on Sunday. Friends, these outreach opportunities are your chance to reach out to people in our
community with the love of Jesus Christ---don’t miss your opportunity! While the times and methods for reaching
people may change, one thing never changes: EVERYONE NEEDS JESUS CHRIST. Let’s all be the light of Christ to
our community this summer. See you on Thursday!

annual Bible Conference. Here is just one example of how God has used this Erica Dorsch
conference to transform lives. edorsch@esumc.net
