THE CHARACTERS OF NOVEL ‘MIRAL’ : RULA JEBREAL

1. Hind Husseini

a. Hind was a kindhearted person. Hind was a woman who has the great importance
in education, especially education for abandoned children. In september 1948, he
built "children's home" more precisely named Dar El-Tifel. She adopt fifty-five
abandoned children and give them education and home.
b. She was a woman who didn’t give up for something and she was also very
compassionate and generous. When her money did not enough to supply
everything for the children, she had a plan to ask help to governor. Afterwards,
the governor gave them helps. Hind never stopped to care of children that abandon
by their parents. She took care of them like her child.
c. Hind was an educated people. She got an excellent education. She continued her
studies at Woman College.
d. She was a woman who had a very high school social life. She was more concerned
with others then herself. Hind never married because she wanted to dedicate
herself to the children. Hind was dead on 13 of September 1994 because of
leukemia. Everyone felt sad at that time. People loss the greatest person in the
world who cares with their child. The day became a very heart-warming day,
everyone was sad and mourned in love and sorrow. Hind always live they heart.

2. Fatima
a. She was clever. She had studied deligently, earnestly and worked long hours to
become a nurse.
b. She was a social woman and high-minded. Because of caught helping the
palestinian people, Fatima was fired from the hospital
c. She had a soul with a very strong courage. He really didn’t like the soldier.
Therefore, Fatima carrying a purse full of explosives, entered the Zion theater ,
mingling with the prostitutes who frequented it. Unfortunately, at the end of her
effort, she was failed.

3. Nadia
a. Nadia was Miral’s mother.
b. She is a beautiful when she was young and alive with her mother and sister.
c. She is a hardworking woman. She is a little girl who was only eight was dropped
out of school as well. She worked hard and the money was given to their
stepfather.
d. She was a strong woman and doesn’t want to fall in a downturn. She dared to
leave home to get a freedom from her father’s sexual harassment.
e. She is a woman who has many relationships with men
f. Nadia is very brave. Nadia had spent three months in prison because she slapped
an Israeli for saying bad things to her as an Arab,
g. Nadia was an Arab prisoner and only political prisoner in a jail full of woman.

4. Miral
a. Miral was smart and she loved education. At the end of story, Miral continued her
education to Europe.
b. Miral was a woman who was not unyielding. She was always trying to get what
she wanted.
c. Miral with Nadia, her sister young, was taken by her father to the orphanage,
Hind's school, Dar El-Tifel.
d. Miral had become a little girl who can be mature, while Rania was not so, so the
teacher should call Miral if wanted to know something from Rania.
e. She was a good girl and has many friends. She was very helpful and caring to
others . Miral is an activist and a politician, he has many struggles for the people
of Palestine. She always spent time to visit the refugee camp and teach the
children there.

5. Hani
a. Hani is a brave man. He joins the demonstration without scare of his life.
b. Hani liked to help each others, Hani helped Miral when she collapsed during
demonstration. Hani was the PFLP officer responsible for jarussalem-the
secretary-and he knew about Khaldun well. Therefore, he can help Miral to find
Khaldun.
c. Hani was also falling love with Miral. They always spent time together to visit
the refugee camp and teach the children there.
d. Same with Miral, he remained very active in their activities and they helped the
refugees together and others.
e. Hani was suspected as a person who works with the enemy, he was considered as
informant for the Israeli service. To save the homeland, there was no compromise
for him so he was executed. This news made Miral very shocked that Hani was
dead.

Other Characters :
1. Hind’s Mother : Hind's mother was a woman who cared very much for her children.
she wanted her child to become an educated woman because it distinguishes
someone's status depends on the education itself
2. Hind’s father.
3. Anwar al-khatib : the governor of Jerussalem
4. Tamam : Nadia’s sister
5. Nadia’s mother.
6. Nimer : Nadia’s stepfather, she didn’t have a sense of affection and responsibility for
his family.
7. Yossi : . He was a Marrocan Jew, he was immediately astruck by the beauty of the girl
then expressed his feelings that he loves nadia.
8. Beni, Jamal, and Hilmi : Mans who have special relationship with Nadia. Beni was a
Catholic businessment, Jamal was an imam of the Al-aqsa Mosque, and hilmi was
was a cousin of the Jamal. Miral was the daughter born of her relationship with Hilmi.
9. Maher : a person with a neatly trimmed beard and short, bristly hair. He knew the
fatima’s problem and helped Fatima destination.
10. Rania : Miral’s sister
11. Jamal : Jamal usually prepared roasted chicken with curry, basmati rice for the
vocation to Dar El-Tifel’s children.
12. Aziza, Sahar, Amal, Miriam : Miral and Riana’s friend in Dar El-Tifel school.
13. Abdullah : Abdullah was like a father for Miral. He was a gym teacher, short and
thickset and he was strong, good natured man proud of his sportive body.
14. Khaldun.
