Dr. Renáta Vanó, Head of Higher Education Division of the Educational Authority
Vano.Renata@oh.gov.hu
I have been asked to provide a letter confirming the status of Central European University as a
New York State Education Corporation and that Central European University conducts
educational activities in New York State.
All colleges and universities in New York are members of The University of the State of New
York. The University, an entity established in the New York State Constitution, encompasses all
education in New York, public and private, from prekindergarten through post-doctoral. The
New York State Board of Regents is responsible for the general supervision of all educational
activities within the State, presiding over The University and the New York State Education
Department.
Central European University was incorporated as a New York State Education Corporation, and
a member of The University of the State of New York, by action of the New York State Board of
Regents by the issuance of a provisional charter on July 24, 1992. The provisional charter was
made absolute by action of the Board of Regents on September 20, 1996. The period for which
such corporation was created is perpetual and no certificate or order of dissolution of such
corporation has been filed or issued and such corporation is authorized to do business in the
State of New York.
Central European University’s charter includes the authority to award degrees and operate
programs that lead to those degrees. Every program creditable toward a degree at an
institution of higher education which is a member of The University of the State of New York
must be registered by the New York State Commissioner of Education. The Inventory of
Registered Programs (Inventory) lists each program registered to each institution of higher
education that is a member of The University of the State of New York. The Inventory can be
found on the New York State Education Department’s website at:
http://www.nysed.gov/heds/IRPSL1.html Programs registered to Central European University
are included in the Inventory. Central European University has registered programs at its
location in Hungary (H-1051 Budapest, Nador u. 9., Hungary), and at its location in Annandale-
on-Hudson, New York, USA. Central European University conducts educational activities at its
New York State location related to its registered Advanced Certificate program in Inequality
Analysis; a program registered jointly with Bard College.
Sincerely,
