ST Well Test Tools

The IPI ST range employ a multi-cycle, 4 stage valving mechanism that allows fluid
communication to either the packers, annulus, test interval or provides complete shut
in. Shifting between stages is accomplished via axial movement only – no rotation is
required. This multi-stage functionality enables multiple tests in a single run without
pulling out of hole.

The ST utilizes a balanced piston design to prevent differential pressures from

accidentally shifting the tool through different stages. This balanced design also
means tool movement does not induce any volume change in the test zone to
maintain accurate initial shut in pressures and prevent jacking/fracking the test zone.
This feature makes the ST range suitable for full operation in both open hole and
cased hole applications.

APPLICATIONS:
■ Coal bed methane DST, IFO and DFIT testing
■ Oil and gas formation evaluation
■ Geotechnical formation evaluation
■ Water well evaluation
■ Casing/patch leak off testing
■ Formation stimulation (eg. “Acidizing”)

FEATURES:
■ Ease of use - no control lines, no rod rotation, no down hole pumps required
■ Inflation bypass design - no ‘squeeze’ pressure while inflating the straddle packers
■ Zero displacement valve design - maintain accurate Shut-in pressures after the
tool is shifted from injection/inflow to Shut-in. Prevent spiking the formation when
shifting from Shut In to Test Zone, which can cause jacking/fracking.
■ Low pressure loss through tool (see over)
■ Ability to circulate while Shut-in
■ Ability to blow down the fluid in the drill pipe/tubing whilst in circulating stage by
using compressed air/nitrogen, to facilitate DST or slug withdrawal testing.
■ All inlet/outlet ports are protected by filter screens to prevent ingress of solids
■ Emergency deflation - can be activated by over-pull in the event that the packers
will not deflate by normal means
■ Cased and open hole application
■ Upgrades available for the provision of a real time wet connect system
