Manual.
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1.1.1 The Transformer’s shall be deliver by low bed or open cargo truck whichever
recommended by the hauler and must arrange in group according to which transformer
room it is located .The transformer’s shall be latched properly and covered during the
transportation. Another physical inspection to be conducted once the transformer arrived
at the site for any damages during the transportation and must be reported and put in
record.
5.1.2 SAFETY
5.1.2.1 Prior to unloading and even during final site installation, the perimeter of the work area
is to be barricaded with warning tapes, and signages indicating “Heavy Lifting in
Progress”.
5.2.1 The transformers are factory provided with lifting eye for lifting purpose. Proper lifting
tools and materials shall be used for the total rigging operation. Prepare the sizes of the
shackles and sling cables according to the dry weight of the transformer units to be lifted.
5.3.1 The area outside adjacent to the transformer rooms where the crane will be set in position
shall be graded flat, leveled, well compacted, free from obstructions and with enough
space to fully extend outriggers.
5.4.1 Ensure that prior to the scheduled installation of the transformer, the embedded railing are
properly clean and the floor is ready dry with epoxy paint.
5.5.1.1 .Set-up the crane on rigging position that it can equally sway the boom into the temporary
platform.
5.5.1.2 Test the actual crane boom length, height, lifting angle and the distance from the center
of the temporary platform by actually operating the crane in fewer loads. Over view the
situation to ensure safe lifting operation.
5.2.2.1 Transport four numbers of transformers for designated room and position the delivery
truck as close as possible to the crane boom swing radius.
5.5.3.1 Attach the slings or chain to the transformer lifting eyes using the ‘D’ shackles and the
center point is put to the lifting hook. Ensure that the boom and block are directly
centered to the transformer weight. Make a trial lift to check balance of the transformer
weight. If any adjustment required, the load should be properly put to rest before making
adjustment.
5.5.3.2 Attach guide ropes on two sides of the transformer to control the swing movement while
lifting.
5.5.3.3 Start lifting the unit according to the rigging supervisors signal, which are accordingly
followed by the crane operator.
5.5.3.4 Control the transformer unit movement while on lift, by guiding the unit with the two
ropes.
5.5.3.5 Slowly lower the load into the platform area and ensure that the four wheels of
transformer are orientated to the rail direction when placing it on to the temporary
platform.
5.5.3.6 Slowly release the weight of the transformer into the platform, evaluate the platform
stability before slowly removing the slings, and guide the slings away in order not to
damage the transformer enclosure.
5.5.3.7 Anchor a plate into a tiebeam and connect the chain block into it by the hook.
5.5.3.8 Manually slide the transformer along the guide rails using Chain block and position the
transformer at permanent location and suitable packing is welded in the rail to obstruct
the further movement of the Transformer.
5.5.3.9 Transformer stopper shall be bolted at the both ends to prevent the transformer from
further movements.
5.5.3.10 Proceed with the same lifting procedure for all other units.
5.5.3.11 Upon completion of all transformer installation, proceed with the fixing of the
protection covers using thick vinyl to cover the unit from dust and place a ply board on
top securely tied to protect from any falling debris.
