Good Places for B.Sc in Statistics in India:-
(1) INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE:- ISI Calcutta offers B.Stat program
which is regarded as one of the leading Bachelors program in Statistics. It
takes an entrance exam & also an interview in each year in the month of
may.
(2)Calcutta University:- There are 5-10 colleges in Kolkata area which offers
B.Sc in Statistics among them St.Xaviers(Autonomous), Presidency
University,Narrendrapur Ramkrishna Misson are renowned for their long
term heritage.
(3) Delhi University:- There are so many colleges under Delhi University
which offers B.Sc in Statistics among which Ramjas College,Hans Raj
College are renowned.
(4) Pune University:- There is some good colleges in Pune university also.
(5) IIT KHARAGPUR:- It offers an Integrated M.Sc in Statistics &
Informatics.It takes admission through IIT JEE.

Good places for M.Sc in Statistics in India:

QROR program which are regarded as one of the leading Masters program
in Allied Science & Statistics. It takes an entrance exam & also an interview

statisticians offers M.Sc in Statistics & M.Phil in statistics program.
(3) INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY: IIT KANPUR offers M.Sc in
Mathematical Statistics & IIT Bombay offers M.Sc in Applied Statistics &
Informatics. It takes admission through IIT JAM.
(4) Pune University, Delhi University, University of Hydrabad have good
faculties & offers M.Sc in Statistics which are renowned too.

MATHEMATICS SYLLABUS:
Real Analysis :Neighbourhoods, open and closed sets, limit points and
Bolzano-Weiestrass theorem, continuous functions, sequences and their
properties, limit superior and limit inferior of a sequence, Convergence of
sequences of real numbers, Comparison, root and ratio tests for
convergence of series of real numbers, infinite series and their convergence.
Rolle’s theorem,mean value theorem, Taylor’s theorem, Taylor’s series,
Maclaurin’s series, maxima and minima, indeterminate
forms.limit,continuity of functions of one or more variable. Power series.
Differentiation and integration of functions of one variable with
applications. Leibnitz formula. Applications of differential
calculus.Successive & Partial Differentiation. Maxima and
Minima.Functions of several variables - limits, continuity, di erentiability.
Double integrals and their Applications. Riemann integration and
properties. Improper integrals. Multiple integrals and applications.Integral
Calculus: Fundamental theorems of integral calculus. Double and triple
integrals, applications of definite integrals, arc lengths, areas and volumes.
Euler’s theorem on homogenous functions,tangents and normals,
asymptotes, singular points, curve tracing, reduction formulae,integration
and properties of definite integrals, quadrature.

transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Cayley-Hamilton theorem,

Descriptive Statistics: Descriptive statistical measures.Measures of
central tendency and dispersion and their properties, skewness and
kurtosis. Contingency tables and measures of association. Product moment
and other types of correlation. Partial and multiple correlation. Simple and
multiple linear regression.

Probability and Sampling Distributions: Notions of sample space

density function and cumulative distribution functions, distribution of a
function of a random variable. Mathematical expectation, moments and

distributions. Poisson and normal approximations of a binomial

sampling, Sampling distributions: Chi-square, t and F distributions, and
their properties and tests of significance based on t, Chisquare and
F-distributions.

Statistical Inference: Estimation: Unbiasedness, consistency and
efficiency of estimators, method of moments and method of maximum
likelihood. Sufficiency, factorization theorem. Completeness, Rao-Blackwell
and Lehmann-Scheffe theorems, uniformly minimum variance unbiased
estimators. Rao-Cramer inequality. Confidence intervals for the parameters
of univariate normal, two independent normal, and one parameter
exponential distributions.
Testing of Hypotheses: Basic concepts, applications of Neyman-Pearson
Lemma for testing simple and composite hypotheses. Likelihood ratio tests
for parameters of univariate normal distribution.
Confidence intervals. Inference related to regression. Elements of
nonparametric inference.

What to do after B.Sc in Statistics in India?


After B.Sc in Statistics the best thing you can do is to pursue an M.Sc in
Statistics/M.Sc in Operations Research/M.Sc in Economics/M.Sc in
Applied Mathematics/M.Sc in Biostatistics. But still there is some Govt jobs
after B.Sc in Statistics.
Govt Jobs after B.Sc in Statistics in India:-
(1)STATISTICAL INVESTIGATOR:- Staff Selection Commission recruits
Statistical Investigator for different posts through an all India entrance
exam. Generally in April they took the exam. Eligibility: B.Sc in Statistics
(Pass/Honours).
(2) Assistant School Teacher:- WBSSC,CBSE,ISC all these boards conduct
individual examinations for recruitment of Assistant School Teacher in
Schools. Eligibility: B.Sc in Statistics (Honours).
(3) PUBLIC SERVICE EXAMINATION:- All states under Govt of India take
Statistical compilers & investigators.Eligibility: B.Sc in
Statistics(Pass/Honours).

What to do after M.Sc in Statistics in India?


Govt Jobs In India:
(1) INDIAN STATISTICS SERVICES:- In each year UPSC,Govt. Of India
conducts the exam to recruit Indian Statistical Officers in the various post
under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. Usually the
exam occurs in the month of September. Eligibility: M.Sc in Statistics or
Related field.
(2) RESERVE BANK OF INDIA:-RBI takes Statistical Research Officer for
the purpose of Statistical Data Analysis & Research work. Eligibility: M.Sc
in Statistics or Related field.
(3) STATISTICAL INVESTIGATOR:- Staff Selection Commission recruits
Statistical Investigator for different posts through an all India entrance
exam. Generally in April they took the exam. Eligibility: B.Sc in Statistics
(Pass/Honours).
(4) RESEARCHER OR PROFESSORS IN COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES:
There are various research organisations in India for research in the fields
of Statistics after M.Sc. And to be a professor in Colleges/Universities or
Institutions an M.Sc degree is essential. To be a school teacher B.Sc in
Statistics is the required eligibility.
(5) PUBLIC SERVICE EXAMINATION: State governments in each state
under Govt of India recruits Statistical Compilor & Officer in Statistical
Sectors.They publishes the notifications in local newspapers.

Private Jobs in India:


(1)Statistician: This is a huge demanded job profile in private sectors
specially in IT-Sectors. A good understanding of Statistics & a masters
degree in Statistics are necessary to get a job like this.
(2)Operations Research Analysts: Operations research has been defined as
an interdisciplinary branch of applied mathematics and formal science that
uses advanced analytical methods such as mathematical modeling,
statistical analysis, and mathematical optimization to arrive at optimal or
near-optimal solutions to complex decision-making problems.
(3) Analyst: The leading job in modern times is the job of data analysis. A
good knowledge of SAS, SPSS can help you to get this type of job with a
marginal ability in the fields of Statistics.
(4) Biostatistician: This is field of statistical tools in the fields of Clinical
Trials, Epidemiology. To go for it it is advisable to do an M.Sc first then go
for some further studies in Biostatistics to be a Biostatistician.
(5) Econometrician : There is also an another option to be an
Econometrician with good knowledge in Statistics, Time Series analysis,
Economics.
