What is a tsunami?

Tsunami are big waves that will be able to reach 30 meters of


height.
The word ‘Tsunami’ comes from two Japanese words. ‘Tsu’ that
means ‘port’ and ‘nami’ that means ‘wave’.

Causes?
Many times a tsunami happens when the Earth’s tectonic plates
move against each other. If an earthquake happens into the
ocean floor, the energy ... From the area where the tsunami
originates, the waves travel outward in all directions.
Sometimes a strong volcano’s eruption generates a tsunami.
There are two ways of volcanoes. First, the volcanoes that are on
the lands, that’s because disturb the ocean because push the
water toward the lands which are near. And the volcanoes which
into the sea lifting up the sea level.
Besides that, a tsunami is caused when a landslide happens. The
landslides are similar to an avalanche. Principally they happen by
a strong earthquake.

Consequences
The consequences if a tsunami happens, will be the economic
loss and the people’s deaths, because sometimes the population
isn’t prepared to avoid this disaster.
Preparation
If you live in a coast zone, get information if the authorities have identify
the flood zones for a tsunami.
Check if your house is in a flood zone for a tsunami.
Identify the escape routes, meeting point and the zones where there
aren’t risk of a flood.
Keep important documents in high places or in airtight containers to avoid
that these will be damage.
Participate in emergency plans in case of a tsunami.
