Service Manual HF-120 General Information
1.1 – INTRODUCTION
The following service instructions are for use only by qualified personnel to installation and
maintenance of the electrosurgical unit described in this manual. WEM will not be responsible
for an improper use of the information contained here.
The purpose of this manual is to provide information about the application and the
installation of HF-120, such as technical information to maintenance and calibration.
WEM reserves the right to make changes in this manual or in the equipment without
advance notice.
All rights reserved. Contents of this manual may not be reproduced in any form without the
written permission of WEM Equipamentos Eletrônicos Ltda.
⇒ ATTENTION: Before to start the maintenance, read the Operational Manual of HF-120
carefully for a thorough understanding of operation and principles of electrosurgery.
Added sections 2.7 and 2.8, and subsections 2.5.1, 2.5.2 and 2.5.3, chapter 6 and
Appendix A, besides reorganization in this manual in relation to the previous one.
Note: Take a look on section “Version of the Software”, for use of the single and the double
footswitch.

2.2 – BOARDS
CPU board: responsible for all equipment control, where is the data memory (IC-U9), the
calibration memory (IC-U6), the microprocessor (IC-U8) and the circuits in
charge of activating and selection modes, the indicator lamps and the
audio circuit;
MB board: responsible for generation and control of output power, where is the bivolt
circuit (automatic selection voltage), the low power supply, the switching
power, and the power block;
Display board: complementary CPU board, used only for setting of the display.

2.5 – TROUBLESHOOTING
2.5.1 – INTRODUCTION
This section explains how to troubleshoot the HF-120 if the problems arise.
The table below shows the most common faults that could happen, the observations
that could be done and the possible causes.
Note: let us know about the new faults presented and that can be added to this manual.

Service Manual HF-120 Technical Information
- Connect the power cord into the rear panel APPLIANCE INLET connector;
- Set the on/off switch located on the rear panel to OFF;
- Connect the power plug to a grounded outlet;
- Set the on/off switch to ON. The green POWER lamp and the STDBY amber lamp on
the upper right front panel should light up, indicating that the equipment is in stand-
by mode;
- Push the STDBY key located on the front panel once in order to set the electrosurgery
unit to the operating mode.
- Connect the FS12 single footswitch or the FS14 double footswitch to the FOOTSWITCH
female connector located on the rear panel. The footswitch male connector must be
pushed until a click is heard, indicating that the connection is firm. To remove the
footswitch, simply press the button on the connector on the rear panel, and at the
same time pull the male connector backward;
- Connect the plate cable to the patient plate. The PC08 cable has two threaded pins
that must be threaded to the two threaded nuts of the PP05 stainless-steel reusable
plate. In case you are using regular or split (PPM-type) disposable adhesive plates,
the PC07 cable must be used to connect the clamp to the adhesive plate ear;
- Connect the other end of the plate cable to the PATIENT terminal on the lower front
panel;
- Connect the handpiece to the ACCESSORY outlet.
Note: Other accessories, such as monopolar forceps, monopolar accessories for video-
laparoscopic surgery etc, can also be connected to the ACCESSORY outlet.
- Connect the cable of the bipolar instrument to the BIPOLAR outlet located on the
lower front panel;
- Select Bipolar through the keys on front panel so as to cause the lamp to light up;
When activating the footswitch, the BIP lamp on the upper front panel should light up at the
same time as a low-picthed function-indicating tone is heard. Power control is by means of the
increase or decrease keys located on the front panel. The display indicates in MAX watts. It is
important to notice that the function-indicating lamp must only light up if there is a radio-
frequency power in the BIPOLAR outlet.

SEQUENCE OF CHECKING:
1 – Check the external part of the equipment:
Case: Check the general conditions
Rear panel: Check the on/off switch, the footswitch connectors, the fuse holder cover
and fuses (check it for proper values)
Front panel: Check the polycarbonate, the keys and/or encoders and the borne ruler
connections.
3 – Inspect the identification label for legibility. If the label is not legible, contact WEM.
6 – Inspect all the accessories accompanying, including the power cord and footswitch cable.

5. Select R. parameter (press STDBY key). Activate the electrosurgical unit and takes the
value of all modes to zero through the DOWN key of volume. Press the SAVE key after each
calibrated mode.
6. Select F. parameter (press STDBY key). Activate the electrosurgical unit and press the UP
key of volume up to you does not increase the values anymore (it must appear the value
.26 on display). Press the SAVE key after each calibrated mode.
6.1 Repeat the procedure above to U. parameter.

8.3 Set the electrosurgical analyzer to 50Ω in bipolar mode. Press DOWN key of
volume up to the power is in accordance with the table below. Press the SAVE
key.
Note: see item 8.1.1.
10.2 Put the patient plate and the handpiece stretched and spaced in 0,5m. Select F.
parameter (press STDBY key).
10.3 Set the electrosurgical analyzer to current leakage measurement.
10.4 With the display in 100, adjust the current leakage in Open Active to 140mA for all
modes, through UP and DOWN keys of volume. Press the SAVE key after each
calibrated mode.
10.5 Check in Open Dispersive if there is any mode higher then 140mA and readjust it.
Press the SAVE key after each calibrated mode.
12. Turn the ESU on to a 205 – 230Vac electric network and check the power vs. load
curve (see item 2.3 and 2.4 of this manual).
13. Check the activation using the single footswitch and double footswitch (in monopolar and
bipolar mode).

STERILIZATION OF ACCESSORIES
VAPOUR AUTOCLAVABLE PROCESS
We inform that the reusable handpiece and all WEM forceps, such as their respective silicone
cables and all WEM electrodes are autoclavable in a temperature up to 134ºC with an
exposition time of 15 minutes. Regarding to the number of sterilizations, we do not have a
specific quantity for each accessory, once each autoclave react in a different way that
influence the water, the vacuum pumps, the high speed drying or another cycle ways.
IMPORTANT:
The higher temperature used, the less exposition time will be necessary. E.g.:
Temperature: 134ºC (273ºF), exposition: 1H of complete cycle;
Temperature: 121ºC (250ºF), exposition: 1:15 to 1:30H of complete cycle.
Note:
See item Accessory Sterilization on operation manual of the product, for better information and
another sterilization methods and cleaning.
The sterilization by ethylene oxide (ETO), increase the useful life of accessories, in relation to the
sterilization by vapour autoclavable process.
