Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson allows students to see images of shapes in real world
situations. This also allows students to view shapes in images presented on a presentation using PowerPoint
software. This lesson can be done in a group setting using partners. The teacher can manipulate the font style,
color and size. The teacher can magnify the images so the children can see it better. This can help those who
are visually impaired.

Lesson idea implementation:

This lesson will cover the math standard for Kindergarten. The standard is MGSEK.G.2 Correctly name shapes
regardless of their orientations or overall size. The PowerPoint presentation will allow the students to see
shapes in different colors, sizes and orientations using real life images. The students are allowed two
examples of shape using two different images. The students are allowed a waiting time to brainstorm and
come up with an answer.

The teacher can decide to use this as a hook, work time or review by how she presents the presentation. She
can allow for class unison for answers, she can assign teams to answer or she can call on students individually.
She can allow for students to answer by calling out or writing/ drawing their answers. The teacher can
differentiate the level by how she allows students to answer. She could group students together to allow
students assistance. She could also decide on which child gets to answer which question. To extend the
learning the teacher could then ask the students to draw each of these shapes in a picture. The teacher can
conclude the lesson by selecting students to present their drawing of the shapes to their classmates. The
teacher will gain feedback by the student’s answers to the PowerPoint and their drawings of the shapes they
produce.

Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)
I think this basic productivity tool ca be used to introduce shapes. I think to further this lesson I could allow
the students to create their own power points about shapes. The student would have to make a slide about
each of the shapes and describe the characteristics of the shapes in a text box. This would get the students
more involved with the use of technology instead of just observing and they would be describing shape
characteristics display their understanding of shapes.
