Haji. M.J. JAMAL MOHAMED

Treasurer
Society of Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy - 20

Assalamu Alaikum (Varah)

In due consideration of the affectionate request from my close relatives and

members of Jamal family, and most importantly because of the fond and humble request
from former and present Professors and Non Teaching staff who were appointed by my
revered father who was the Treasurer as well as Secretary and Correspondent, wanted me
to bring out a book-let to perpetuate the memory of our former Secretary who was
connected with Jamal Mohamed College even before its inception, therefore I ventured to
collect articles from various people connected with Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy.

I thought of compiling and editing the informations received from various quarters
about my father and his ancestors who were connected with the establishment of Majlisul
Ulema and Jamal Mohamed College in Trichy. They were available in bits and pieces and
found in some books and Magazines. The articles written by eminent Professors reveal the
amount of sacrifice and hard work put in by my father who spent his entire life for the
development of our College and other Institutions in our campus. Therefore I deemed it fit
to bring out a souvenir which he rightly deserves.

I have written articles about my father whom I know from my childhood and about
our Founder Haji Jamal Mohamed Sahib based on the informations given by my father and
my grandfather. I should admit and appreciate the fact that my father has given me a lot of
information about how the College was started and also about his father, grandfather and
great grandfather.

What I know about my ancestors, the present and future generation may or may not
know. My sole intention is to bring to the notice of my family members, about the great
deeds done by my father and his ancestors to give education to the economically backward
and financially weak students of our community and also other communities. They should
be aware of the history and events that have taken place, which should motivate them to
devote their valuable time and energy for the uplift of the society in all fields. That is why I
have taken pains to collect, edit and release this memorable Souvenir.

Hajee M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor Sahib was not only connected with Educational
Institutions run by the Society of Jamal Mohamed College, he was a multi faceted personality
connected with all our family Trusts in Madras. He was connected with the opening of
Jamalia Higher Secondary School in Madras founded by his father. He was the Naazir of
Jamalia Arabic College and he built the new mosque in the Jamalia Arabic College by
collecting more than 25 lacs. He was the Muthavalli of Rahmania Jumma Masjid, Perambur
and played a vital role in developing it, and the present stature of the Masjid owes a lot to him.
He was the Secretary of the South Indian Athletic Association for many years. He was a senior
member of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and was it's Executive Committee member for
a continuous period of eight years. Syed Abdul Wahab Buhari sahib, the former Principal of
Jamalia Arabic College and The New College, Madras and Former Professor of Presidency
College, Madras once wrote an article “ The three great Jamals” recalling the services
rendered by my first generation Haji. Jamal Mohideen sahib who donated the Jamal
Mohideen buildings of our College and who founded Jamalia Arabic College, Madras in 1898
and also the co-founder of Majlisul Ulama, Trichy along with N. Mohamed Mian Rowther and
about Haji. Jamal Mohamed, Founder of Jamal Mohamed College and M.J. Jamal Mohideen,
Ex-MP founder Secretary of JMC, Trichy which was started in the year 1951.

In my opinion and taking into account the views expressed by various writers about
Gafoor Sahib, I would like to call him as the “Fourth great Jamal”.

I thank Dr. A. K. Khaja Nazeemudeen, Secretary & Correspondent for accepting my

request to bring out this Souvenir in memory of my revered father and Dr. S. Ismail Mohideen,
Principal and Br. Abdul Samad, Asst. Secretary for their keen interest in the Successful
launching of this booklet. I also thank all our Professors, my family members and relatives
wellwishers and all others who have contributed articles, messages and greetings in the
makeup of this Souvenir. I thank and acknowledge the support given by my dear daughter
Hajira Fathima whose hero was my revered father Gafoor sahib. I take this opportunity to
thank Dr. A. Mohamed Ibraheem, Vice principal, Dr. M. Mohamed Sahabudeen, Additional
Vice Principal, Directors Dr. A. Syed Zakir Hasan, HOD of Tamil, Professors K. Mohamed
Ismail, Dr. K.Sirajudeen and Dr. S. Nagoor Gani of Tamil Department, Dr. A. Prasanna,
Mathematics Department and Mr. M. Abdul Majeeth Badusha, Programmer who have helped
me a lot to bring out this Souvenir in a grand manner. As a devoted son it was my duty to show
my respects and gratitude to a wonderful father who was everything to me. What all I am today
is because of him, and needless to say that he was my best friend, Philosopher and guide at all
times. Let the Almighty accept all his good deeds and bless him with heavenly abode.

With kind regards,

Secretary and Correspondent

Assalamu Alaikkum (Varah),

I am very happy to know that a souvenir is being broughtout to perpetuate the memory of
Haji. M. J. M. Abdul Gafoor Sahib Our Former Secretary and Correspondent. I had a very long association with him and I
can recall with pride that I was nominated as a member of the Management Committee in 1995 when brother Haji Gafoor
sahib was the Secretary and Correspondent and Haji. K.A. Khaleel Ahamed sahib was the Treasurer. In 2003, I was
nominated as the Assistant Secretary of the College Management Committee to help the Secretary and Correspondent in
all administrative activities. I had the fortune of travelling with him to overseas countries and also to meet our Alumni in
many places in Tamil Nadu. I was fortunate to perform my Umra in the company of our brother Gafoor sahib and he helped
me to touch the sacred stone (Hajrul Aswath). He was very friendly with our N.M. Family and had close association with our
Founder N.M.Khajamian Rowther, Founder Treasurer N.M.Abdul Samad Sahib and my father N.M.Abdul Kader Sahib
who was the Secretary and Correspondent when Gafoor sahib was the Treasurer. He used to visit our house quite often to
meet my parents and my brothers. He was more than a relative to all of us.

In 2011, he stepped down as Secretary and Correspondent and elevated me as the Secretary and Correspondent
and got the confirmation for me as Secretary and Correspondent from the Directorate of Collegiate Education within 3
days by using his good offices and fine rapport with the officials of the DC office, Chennai. He used to depute me to look
after the College work like construction of buildings and other related works and was very helpful to me in my formative
years as Committee Member and Assistant Secretary by guiding and motivating me which enabled me to perform my duty
as the Secretary and Correspondent of the College from 2011 onwards in a very efficient manner. I congratulate my friend
Haji M.J. Jamal Mohamed our present Treasurer and the illustrious son of Haji. M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor sahib and also my
close friend for nearly 4 decades for the initiative taken by him to bring out this souvenir which contains many informations
about him and the long standing service rendered by him to all our educational institutions in general and more particular to
the Jamal Mohamed College for nearly 4 decades. It also contains information regarding the ancestors of Gafoor sahib
who were connected with our institution. May Allah bless our brother Gafoor sahib with Jannath and heavenly abode.

Yours lovingly,

Dr. A.K. KHAJA NAZEEMUDEEN

Haji. K. A. Khaleel Ahamed Sahib

Former Treasurer
Assalamu Alaikkum (Varah),
I am very much delighted to know about the proposed release of a booklet about Haji Gafoor sahib,
Our Former Secretary and Correspondent of Jamal Mohamed College and other institutions run by our
Society. He was like my elder brother and was a source of strength and encouragement to me when I was
nominated as the Treasurer. He always had a healthy interaction with me on all affairs pertaining to the development of all our
educational institutions in our campus. He was a very straight forward and hard working man and used to visit Delhi and
Hyderabad for work relating to AICTE and Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah and also undertook many foreign tours to UAE,
Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Kuwait to inaugurate and address our Alumni Chapters during the tenure of
Principals Dr. Abdul Samad, Dr. Abdullah Basha, and Dr.Sheik Mohamed and got many buildings and also handsome donation
for the distribution of scholarship every year. He was a very strict disciplinarian and never allowed his family members or friends
to meddle with College affairs. He was very democratic and always consulted and took a decision with the concurrence of all
members of the Management Committee by convening the Executive Committee, Annual General Body Meeting and also Extra-
ordinary General Body Meetings. He served as Treasurer for 17 years and as Secretary and Correspondent for 22 long years.
During his tenure as Secretary and Correspondent the College got 5 star Accreditation from NAAC, Bangalore in 2002 and became
Autonomous in 2004 and also got Accredited with ‘A’ Grade by securing 3.6 out of 4.0 CGPA in the 2nd Cycle in 2009. He
maintained an excellent rapport with all educational authorities and also with all Vice Chancellors of our University. He was
associated with the College from its inception in 1949 and was the only man available to us who knew the history of our College
and other informations related to the opening of the College in 1951 till his demise in 2015. He only had the distinction of serving
our College during Silver Jubilee as Treasurer, Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee celebrations of our College as Secretary and
Correspondent.

He was a personal friend of mine and an elder brother to me for more than 6 decades and he used to stay in my house only
whenever he visited Trichy from Madras. His father M.J. Jamal Mohideen Ex MP. Fondly known as “Attau” sahib was my father’s
best friend. They are the two personalities who really worked to fulfill the dream of our founders to initiate and start the Jamal
Mohamed College. Mr. Jamal Mohideen was the Founder Secretary and my Father N.M.Abdul Samad was the Founder Treasurer.
All my children were very much attached to him since he always stayed in our house and called him as “Periya Athaa” (Elder
Father). My best wishes to his son for venturing to bring out a souvenir to remember his worthy and glorious service to all our
institutions in the campus and recall with pride his efforts taken to start and commence the Women Section in 1999 and also for
starting the MBA (Jamal Institute of Management) in the year 2000. One more laudable achievement of him is the starting of JMC
Ayesha Girls Matriculation School in 2010. He was also responsible for getting permission from NCTE, Bangalore and started
Jamal Mohamed College of Teacher Education (B.Ed) during his tenure as Secretary and Correspondent.

Let the Almighty shower his choicest blessings on him and provide a place in Jannath. Let us all pray for his Magfirath
and heavenly abode.

Yours lovingly,

Haji. K. A. Khaleel Ahamed Sahib

Dr. K. ABDUS SAMAD

Assistant Secretary
A GIANT OF JAMAL FAMILY
Hajee. Janab. M. J. M. Abdul Gafoor Sahib

Assalamu Alaikkum (Varah)

I am glad to pen a few lines on my close relationship with Hajee (Late) M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor
sahib, the Former Secretary and Correspondent of our College. How can I forget the fantastic days
which I spent with my “Periyatha”? – A logic or magic word in my life. Whenever my “Periyatha”
came to Trichy, he used to stay in our house at Palakkarai to assist and counsel my father in all
activities at home. My mother used to prepare a variety of dishes and my father used to call him
“Annan”. The way my parents addressed, talked and discussed with my Periyatha was a source of
motivation and inspiration to me. He always encouraged me in my studies. By nature, he was strict
but by heart he was very kind with a sound mind. His sons treated me like brothers. “Ummu
Periyamma” his wife was more affectionate with my mother and relatives too. The bond of love and
mercy was mixed with all the members of our family in a matchless manner. How can we forget 66
years of sweet and strong relationship with my father Haji. K.A.Khaleel Ahamed sahib and other
members of our family.

My dear “Periyatha” was a simpleton. He chose to travel by Rockfort Express to reach Rock
City from Chennai. Another example for his simplicity was his further travel by bus from
Palakkarai to Tollgate by bus No.21. His legs automatically found way to N.M.Colony, to our house
and my “Periyatha” used to consult my father on all matters related to our College, besides family
matters.

Whenever I went to Chennai during 1985, I used to travel in Chennai with my dear
“Periyatha” by his white coloured “Lambrata” Scooter. The places, the persons, the purchases, the
pleasure – all remain green in my memory even now, though I was just ten years old at that time. To
add grace and gaiety to our relationship his sons and daughters were more intimate with me and
even we attended “Kanduri” festivals held at Dindigul which were dearer to our heart. He was a
strong lover of Cricket game and loved watching matches on Television. The Urdu “Ghazals” were
the sources of enjoyment and feast to his ears for many years.
“We eat to live and not live to eat”. True to this dictum, my “Periyatha” had his food habits
in a good manner right from his early days, I was told by my father. Light and restricted food only he
took avoiding oily items and prawns for having a healthy life. I know he never suffered from any
serious health issues even at his old age only because of his better habits of food.

A man is known by his dress and address, so said scholars. My “Periyatha” used to wear
white shirt and dhoti, symbolic of his pure heart – “Purity” and “Simplicity” are the key words
which lock our heart for a role model royalty.

When my “Periyatha” was the Secretary and Correspondent of our College, I had a unique
chance of being a Jamalian. My father was the Treasurer and Janab. N. Abdul Samad was the
Principal at that time. I was given B.Com., Admission in 1995 by my “Periyatha” with a smiling
face. How lucky I was! During my College days he gave me valuable inputs to uplift my care and
career for a potential and successful goal of life.

I joined as a Lecturer in Jamal Institute of Management in 2001 and elevated as the Director
of Jamal Institute of Management in 2011. Another incident that occurred in Chennai rolls in my
memory. Whenever I went to Chennai my “Periyatha” used to take me to the Secretariat and AICTE
Office to get things done systematically sincerely and superbly. I learnt the art of getting things
done from officials outside. How nicely, catchingly and diplomatically he spoke to the persons
concerned in the AICTE office and Government Officials!

During a Summer Vacation in 2015, I was at Kanyakumari residence with members and
relatives of my family. I never had such a shock in my life. The news of my Periyatha's sickness and
admission at Ramachandra Hospital, Porur, Chennai, pierced my heart and ears sadly. Mr.
Jamaludeen, his younger son confirmed the news of the sudden death of my “Periyatha” due to a
massive heart attack on 3rd May 2015 at 1.30 p.m. I rushed to the hospital to see the sad demise of a
super giant. Then I attended his funeral with all my in laws and relatives in Chennai. A great
Jambavan of Jamal died decently. But his giant actions for the growth and glory of our institution
will live in the hearts of everyone in this holy soil.

Let me pray to Allah to allot him a place in Jannath.

Let me pray to Allah to shower mercy for his Mahfirath
Let me pray to Allah to bless all his family members with Barakkath

Thank you all !

Yours lovingly,

Dr. K. ABDUS SAMAD

Dr. S. ISMAIL MOHIDEEN

PRINCIPAL
A LOYAL LEADER FROM A ROYAL FAMILY
– JANAB. M. J. M. ABDUL GAFOOR SAHIB

Haji.Janab.M.J.M.Abdul Gafoor sahib was a gem of human being. His majestic look
always inspires everyone. He was very calm at the same time resolute in his decisions. His
charismatic appearance easily attracted everyone's respect and affection which naturally arise on
seeing such a great personality.

The welfare of the college was the sole aim of his every breath. It is a divine gift for me to
associate myself with such a matchless personality in my life. Though he was our employer, he
never treated me like an employee. He always treated every staff member of this great institution
with much respect and maintained a piously-nice relationship. He used to say, “We own the staff
and the staff own this college”.

In an another instance, we can clearly understand what a great humanitarian he was. In

the year 2004, all the teaching staff were being arrested and dismissed for involving in strike for
certain demands from the Govt. of Tamilnadu. All the college managements were advised by the
Govt. to dismiss the staff members. But our former Secretary and Correspondent Janab. Abdul
Gafoor Sahib was an exception. He straight away rejected the proposal stating, “They are all my
professors, I cannot dismiss them”. Such was the courage and conviction displayed by him,
affectionately.

Personally I was much grateful to the great humanitarian Janab. Abdul Gafoor Sahib.
When the then Principal Janab. Dr. M.Sheik Mohamed and Hostel Co-ordinator
Dr. R. Khader Mohideen approached him to consult for making me as the next Co-ordinator of
Hostels, he politely disclosed his association with my Father in Law Dr. P. Shahul Hameed and told
me that he stayed in his house in Chidambaram long back. On several occasions, he reminded the
incident. Such was the generosity of this great personality.

When I was a Deputy Warden in our College Hostel, an unforgettable incident occurred.
An intimate relative of our Gafoor sahib was an inmate who involved himself in a mischievous
matter, resulted in disciplinary case. This problem was taken to the ears of Mr. Gafoor Sahib. What
a great surprise! “Send him out of hostel” was the quick response, consequently that student was
sent out. Can anyone imagine such a fair and honest administrative decision anywhere? Such
things can happen only in Jamal. When I took charge as the Co-ordinator of the Hostels, he
insisted me to give contract only to those tenders who quote the least amount for any project. He
was very careful in honestly maintaining justification in every matter.

Here I wish to share another incident which proves his helping tendency irrespective of
any difference. In the year 2010, I wished to go for Haj pilgrimage. Only one day was there to start
my pilgrimage. But there were some problems in getting clearance from the Office of the Directorate
of Collegiate Education.

Our former Secretary and Correspondent stepped in and directly went to the DCE office
and solved all the issues. The Very next day, he gave me the orders in Chennai and gave send off to
me with his blessings. I felt humble when he requested me to buy a new Musalla and offer prayer in
the same in front of Kaaba and Madina and return it to him so that he could do his regular prayer in
the same Musalla. I abided by his words and he was also equally happy on receiving it. What else
can give me more pleasure?

I realized his duty consciousness and sincerity when myself and my Father in Law visited
him to inquire about his health. He was bedridden and could not walk. Even in such a situation, he
asked us to do dua for him so that he could gain good health and do his sincere and active service to
the college and community.

On several occasions, I got an opportunity to associate myself with our Abdul Gafoor
Sahib. He actively participated in every function conducted in the hostel. He would visit the
function punctually and make his presence majestically with his white attire. He would be sitting
like a lion in the front row. On one occasion, he returned us a shawl as he felt that it was an extra
shawl, may be meant for some other dignitary. Very meticulously, he maintained his character and
became a role model for others.

It was a great opportunity for me to have contact with eminent personalities and Alumni
of our college who have settled all over the world when I was bestowed with the position of Asst.
Secretary and then Secretary of our Alumni Association. I thankfully remember our former
Secretary and all former Principals and Present Management Committee for having good
confidence on me.

Sincerity, Simplicity, honesty, duty consciousness, punctuality, exceptional human

relationship are the hall marks of this great personality. He has made a lasting impact on the
present generation towards the righteousness in life.

May Allah bless him with a Heavenly abode.

May Allah help us all, always in all ways for the growth and glory of our institutions.

Dr. A. MOHAMED IBRAHEEM

VICE PRINCIPAL & HOD OF ENGLISH
JAMAL MOHAMED COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS). TIRUCHIRAPPALLI – 620 020.

A RARE GENIUS OF A ROYAL FAMILY

- MY MARVELLOUS MEMORIES OF
HAJI. JANAB (LATE) M. J. M. ABDUL GAFOOR SAHIB
Jamal is a divine gift to society. To serve in Jamal is a great gift to staff and student
community. The Jamalian journey that started in 1951, has been yielding rich results due to
the sustained sincere efforts and distinguishedly dedicated leadership provided by the
Magnanimous Management Committee along with a superb team of staff members. Our
College provides modern, model and moral education spreading the light of knowledge with
amazing achievements in academic and extra-academic activities, realising the realities of
life. Though there are many glorifiable great men on the College Management Committee, a
rare person who comes to my mind with whom I had well-interacted, by whom I too was
inspired and impressed was Janab. M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor sahib. Mr. A.G stands for Ability
and Generosity. No doubt, I have marvellous memories of this rare gem of a royal family.
I am one of the thousands of privileged Alumni who entered the campus of Jamal as a
student for doing Pre-University Course (PUC) in 1978-1979. I had a chance of continuing my
Higher Education here for B.A., M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D., Degrees at the Department of
English for nearly a decade. I was appointed as an Assistant Professor of English on 2nd
January 1986 when this genius was the Treasurer. In my experience here as a staff member
for 32 years, I politely and proudly declare that Jamal never collected a paisa as donation
either for student's admission or for staff appointments. But the present day education of the
material world, has been callously commercialized and inhumanly inflated, is indeed a
universal truth.
Mr. Gafoorji, more than Gandhiji was a man of maturity, modesty and magnanimity. As
a right person in the right positions – as a member, Treasurer and Secretary and
Correspondent on the Management Committee of our College, he served significantly during
the triple occasions of Silver Jubilee, Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of
our College. As a token of love and affection, Jamal has been receiving a perennial patronage
from her Alumni all over the world. Mr. Gafoorji, during his visit on College matters to foreign
countries, impressed our well-placed old students there, by explaining the mission and vision
of our College and how we serve without caste, creed or colour. Many of my English studied
graduates there made phone calls to me regarding the way Mr. Gafoorji addressed them about
the College activities. He proved the fact that leadership is not a position but action to the
satisfaction of the stakeholders.
“The task of modern educator is not to cut down the jungles, but to irrigate the
deserts” so said C.Lewis. As a modern educator Mr. Gafoorji irrigated the desert-like mind
and heart of many persons. During his entire tenure on the Management Committee he
contributed a lot to revolutionize our campus in a royal manner. In the matters of providing
scholarship, building relationship, treating staff members, advising office bearers, adding
infrastructures, working with a smile, etc. he was the best role model to all of us. Indeed, we
have learnt a lot from his life-style.
One day-I think it was a Wednesday. Mr. Gafoorji just returned from Chennai, busy
seeing files in his office, when I entered into the room for a signature. “Take your seat sir”
and smilingly added, “I serve in one capacity and you serve in other capacity”. “Let us
arise and accomplish more for further success of our College”. Another incident which
touched my heart was the way in which he refused to take even a fraction of amount (50 paisa)
in a rounded off figure in the claim bill eligible and payable to him, which I could see from his
dialogue with office staff. To such an extent he was scrupulously honest in many matters,
especially money matters. The purity of heart and charity of mind were the two hallmark
qualities of his personality. The Tsunami Relief Fund of Rs.4 Lakhs was presented by him to
the then Chief Minister Hon'ble Dr. J. Jayalalitha in the academic year 2004-05.
Once during the days of State Level Teacher's Strike, in 2005 Mr. Gafoorji protected the
interest of our teachers, not bothering about the sequences or consequences of the strike
situations. This incident proved his generosity with gravity for the welfare of our staff
members.
Mr. Gafoorji's – towering structure, white cap and beard, powerful vision and
spectacles, warm wishes and winning smile, his nobility and ability, his care and share and
above all his God-fearing attitude with prayer have brought pleasure to everyone in the
campus. The vital role played by Mr. Gafoorji in community service, guidance and
counselling, students support system, hostel welfare schemes, academic and extra-academic
excellence, sports and games, research and developments, allotment or disbursements of
funds, staff welfare matters, activities of clubs, health or wealth care and any other matter
small or big – be it a podium or stadium – he was the medium of our marvellous memories.
What have we learnt from his life history? A few recollections!

Director & Bursar (SF)

Assalamu Alaikkum (Varah),

I am very pleased to know about the launching of Souvenir on 21st June 2018 about Haji
Abdul Gafoor Sahib.

As on date he was the longest serving Secretary and Correspondent having good 22 years
(1989-2011) of service as Secretary and Correspondent and also as Treasurer for 17 years. I joined
the College in 2002 and completed my MCA in 2008. He was the Secretary at that time and
appointed me as a Lecturer in Computer Science Department in the year 2008. He attended my
wedding on 01.01.2011 and visited my father-in-law's house in Singapore during the month of May
2011 and had lunch and high tea.

He was very affectionate with our family and was an elder brother to my father. He was a very
hard working man and towering personality. When my father was nominated as Assistant Secretary
in 2003, to assist him he and my father along with our Former Treasurer Haji. Khaleel Ahamed
Sahib worked in Tandem for the growth and development of all the educational institution in our
campus. Our College achieved many mile stone during his tenure as Secretary and Correspondent. I
thank our brother Jamal Mohamed for giving me this opportunity to recall my association with
“Periatha” (Elder Father) and I wish all the best for the successful release on 21.06.2018.

With kind regards,

Yours lovingly,

Dr. K. N. ABDUL KADER NIHAL

Hajee M.J.M.Abdu Gafoor Sahib
Invigorating Reminiscence
I recollect the fond memories of my “Periaththa” (Elder Father) Haji M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor
Sahib who decorated the position of treasurer of Jamal Mohamed College from 1973 to 1989 and
Secretary and correspondent from 1989 to 2011. Revered memory Haji M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor Sahib
was a kind hearted administrator and a man of impeccable manners.
Haji M.J.M. Abdul Gafoor Sahib and my father Jamal Mohamed Ansari were first cousins.
When I was a child, I was fondly nurtured by his mesmerizing voice and affection. During my
childhood age, I used to call him “Aadu aruththa Periaththa” (Slaughtering the Sheep for the
family function). He was a senior member of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and he used to appear
in Television for the prize distribution function after the Cricket Match held at Chepak grounds. I
used to watch that function in the TV and started called him as “Cricket Periaththa”.
Regarding my higher studies, I completed my Under Graduation in Melvisharam and got
admission in M.Sc., Computer Science in Jamal Mohamed College in 2006. Here, I have a pleasant
memory with my “Periaththa”. After completing my studies, “Periaththa” gave me a chance to serve
as Programmer in our Jamal Mohamed College in 2008. At the time of appointment, “Periaththa”
adviced me to follow rich traditions and culture of Jamal Mohamed College. In addition, he used to
say that I was given the appointment to serve the College and only to look after my mother. I follow
the footsteps and advice of my “Periaththa”. Now I am a filial son to my parent. After my mother's
death, I bring laurels to my College and the family as well.
My Periaththa was a great source of inspiration for all of us. I have learnt many things from
him. Being a strict disciplinarian, he used to follow the time management. He was synonyms for his
straight forwardness and simplicity. He is popularly called “Custodian of staff of Jamal Mohamed
College”. How can I forget his tremendous contributions to the college as well as to the society.
With Regards,

Dr. K.N.MOHAMED FAZIL

Director – Hostel Administration

Assalamu Alaikkum (Varah),

I am immensely pleased to know about the release of a book-let in memory

of Haji. Gafoor sahib. He was the Secretary and Correspondent when I joined as a student of our
College in the year 2005 and completed my M.A., Economics in the year 2010. I was appointed
by him as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics in the same year. He had a
very long association with our College and had the distinction of serving the College for nearly
four decades and played a vital role in the growth and development of our institutions in the
campus. One incident I would like to recollect is the first birthday of my son Farraz on
25.03.2015 which was celebrated in our College Garden. Periatha (Elder Father) reached Trichy
at 5.00 p.m. on 25th March 2015. He came to Trichy to attend the College Day Functions. He was
not aware of my sons first birth day function and when I invited him for the function he said “see
I have come in time for my grandsons birthday” and he only cut the Cake along with my father
and Haji Khaleel Sahib. Such was the love and affinity he had on our family members. He was an
able administrator and a very simple person and he never cared for formalities.

I send my best wishes for the successful launching of this souvenir and thank for the
opportunity given to me to recall some of my association with our former Secretary. Let the
Almighty accept all his good deeds and bless him with Jannath.

With kind regards,

Yours lovingly,

Dr. K.N.MOHAMED FAZIL
