Reaction Paper on “Abortion”

The previous report on “Abortion” was very informative as it also included some facts
supported by statistics, infographics and a virtual animation of the abortion process itself at
different stages. This controversial issue has long been a topic for debates and is one of the ideas
for protest. The statistics presented was depicting the current state of the issue. The infographic
specifically the one that clearly pronounced the distribution of abortion legality all throughout
the world surprised me since there were countries that I didn’t expect to have been fully
abortion-legal. The videos showing the simulation of the process of abortion were very
knowledgeable as they really revealed the details regarding each step of the process.

The doctor who presents in the videos said that he, himself has met hundreds of different
abortion cases and has also eventually done it to patients. As a doctor, I understand that for his
past decades, he has thought abortion as one of the right options for him to cater his patients’
cases. He at some point believed that he was sure of what he is doing. While the public has
diverse views on this topic, he, at the end of each video has said that what he did was wrong and
have come upon a realization. I think one of the factors that made it hard for him to realize it
earlier was the personal circumstances of and beliefs of his patients that manifested themselves.
He had a perception that it is a personal matter for each individual. That is the belief of the pro-
abortion side since for them, there are really instances in which there’s no choice but to abort
the baby, believing that all babies go to heaven anyway.

On the other hand, I have no idea on the story of what made him realize that he was
mistaken regarding this matter. My side has always been for the con-abortion side. It isn’t solely
because of my religious beliefs but it is what I think is morally right. Killing is killing. No matter
what way of killing is performed, it is still one of the biggest sins a man can commit. Still, I don’t
condemn those people who partakes in this kind of activity since I will never have the right to.
For me, all life are precious and we are not solving the problem by getting innocent lives done.
This isn’t the solution and it will never be.

There is a clear split between people who wants to legalize abortion and to those who
don’t want. The statistics also pronounced that this controversial issue is very diversified among
all the countries. Some people changes their decision over a single discussion. That is why the
government policies made pertaining to abortion were the public cannot simply agree. This
cannot simply change human nature as what we can notice from the unobservable real change.
