I. Aim of the course:

The aim of the course is to enable the candidates to specialize in the medical field of
diagnostic and interventional radiology. By the end of the course the candidates should
become primarily broadly skilled and safe general radiologists who recognize the basic
knowledge of different radiological sub-specialities and acquire the communication and

analytical problem solving skills necessary to reach a radiological diagnosis, respecting
ethical values according to community culture. The course also aims to introduce the
candidate to the basics of scientific medical research and to engage him in continuing
media! education.

II. Intended learning outcomes:


1. Knowledge and understanding: By the end of the program the candidate should;
a) Distinguish the basic radiological appearances of different pathologies,
b) Recognize basic concepts of radiological techniques, indications, contraindications and
potential complications of radiological procedures
c) Identify the management of procedural complications.
d) Describe different diagnostic modalities for diagnosing various lesions.

2._Intellcctual_skills: By the end of the program the candidate should be able to;
a) Develop skills and audit methodology that are necessary to structure and perform
research and audit under appropriate guidance.
b) Review published articles critically and to perform effective literature searches on a
given topic.
c) Interpretation of the effective application of research findings in everyday practice will
be also required.

3. General and transferable skills: By the end of the program the candidates should
be able to;
a) Participation in reporting different radiological examinations which are taken during the
general throughput of the normal working day of the department of radiodiagnosis.
b) Attendance at and conducting clinicoradiological conferences and mullidisciplinary
meetings.
c) Competence at reviewing studies on a workstation and familiarity with digital image
manipulation and post-processing.
d Teaching and Training. Appraising and Assessing.
e) Provision of a good standard of practice and care, treatment in emergencies writing
reports, giving evidence and signing documents,
f) Working with colleagues:

III. Course contents:

Compulsory courses; one academic year (30 weeks Starts October)

In each of the specialized radiology imaging units, weekly tutorials (at least 3 weekly) are
arranged to:
 Discuss different radiology cases (images interpretation and radiologic diagnosis)

Each of the specialized radiology imaging units directs a weekly scientific meeting to
present:
 Challenging cases presentations (at least 3 radiology cases)
Each case presentation includes:
a) Radiology images
b) Relevant clinical data
c) Differential diagnosis
d) Final diagnosis
 Scientific presentation for an advanced imaging technique and its applications
D. Journal club: (ILOs 2a,b,c)

 In each of the specialized radiology imaging units, a weekly meeting is held to
review recent research studies and articles

 Candidates are assigned to contribute in the- weekly scientific meetings in the
department by presenting cases.

VI. Assessment:

Supervision and Monitoring of the Training Program


Attendance criteria:
According to the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University bylaws for residency training
programs, professors carry continuous assessment during the program. A residency

training program logbook will be kept with each student. The prerequisite for entry of the
final examination is 75% attendance of the lectures as shown in the attendance book.

A-Assessment tools:
Final Examination Part.2:
Radiodiagnosis and Interventional Radiology
Two written exams; three hours each (paper 1 includes short essays and paper two
includes multiple choice questions)

Spotting and long cases exam
B. Assessment schedule:
Examination description:
Final Examination Part 2
The written exam is held in May /November every year
Day one: Radiodiagnosis and Interventional Radiology, Paper 1 (short essays. 3
hours)
Day two: Radiodiagnosis and Interventional Radiology, Paper 2 (multiple choice
questions, 3 hours)

This is followed by the oral exams (multiple examiners)


Spotting and long cases exam.

C. Weighing of assessment:
Marks allocated to courses (50 marks for each credit point).
