Campton School District

Dear Parent or Guardian:

The 2012– 2013 school year is upon us and Café Services/Fresh Picks is pleased to manage your school’s
Food Service Program. Café Services is a locally owned and operated company dedicated to serving delicious,
wholesome, quality meals that meet the latest nutritional guidelines. The following are some changes you can
expect to see in the Campton School District Food Service Program:
1.) Menus: The Middle School will have the following stations offering a variety of daily lunch choices.
Signature Café featuring “Home Made” Entrees, “Build it Bars” and “Tossed to Order” Entrée Salads; Market
Fresh which will feature a daily selection of Entrée Salads as well as Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits; Formaggio’s
Pizza featuring quality Fresh Baked Pizza made with whole grain dough and low fat cheeses; Café Express will
offer Hot “Grab and Go” Sandwiches and the Downtown Deli will serve “Made to Order” Deli Sandwiches. We
will also operate a separate Snack and Beverage “à la carte” area. Café Services will also be open prior to
school each day to provide a complete nutritious breakfast featuring our Café Express Hot “Grab and Go”
Breakfast Sandwiches, Fresh Baked Bagels and assorted breakfast items. Market Fresh will have available
Breakfast Parfaits and Fruit Cups.
The Elementary School will have a wider selection of choices each day that may include options such
as Fresh Made Salads, Yogurt Parfaits, The Signature Café Entrée, and a Daily Deli Sandwich Choice.
The Elementary School will also participate in the Breakfast Program so that every child will have the
opportunity to start their day with a healthy meal.
2.) Local Purchasing and Green Initiatives - Café Services has a robust local purchasing policy, and buys
directly from local farms and food producers as much as is possible. We are a strong supporter of the Farm to
School initiative, and our efforts have been recognized by groups such as VT FEED, NOFA Vermont, NH Farm
to School and the UNH Cooperative Extension. We are also active in recycling and composting efforts, and will
be introducing programs to help Campton Schools reduce, reuse and recycle even more than in the past. We
are always looking to build new relationships with local farmers and environmentally conscious groups – please
feel free to contact your Food Service Director.
2.) Meal Assistance Program: The meal assistance program is a federally funded program that provides
reduced and free meals to families that meet the income guidelines. Applications for this program can be
obtained from the school at any time during the school year. Complete the application (only one application per
household is required) and return it to your child’s school. You will then be notified of the benefit level for which
you qualify. You can apply or reapply at any time during the school year should your financial situation change.
The program is operated in strict confidence and all students go through the same checkout process eliminating
any distinction between students that are participating in the program and those who are not.
3.) Automated Point of Sale System (POS) The Campton School District has an automated point of sale
system from “Meal Time”. Parents will have 2 methods to fund their student’s account.
Option 1. You may set-up an online account using a Credit/Debit card to make deposits into your child’s
account. Transactions are processed through Nova utilizing the industry leader in e-commerce security of
VeriSign. There is a 4.9% transaction fee charged for MealTime Online. The district is hoping to free up our
cafeteria workers from having to count cash and allow them to focus instead on preparing healthy and tasty
meals. Please note that you can find the directions for this procedure listed below this letter. If you do not
know your student’s I.D. number to create and access this account, it is available
________________________. For instructions and information on MealTime Online sign on instructions
are included at the bottom of this letter or look for it under the “Fresh Picks Café” link on the Campton
District website.

Option 2. You may send a check with your child made payable to the Campton District Lunch Program.
Please make sure to include the child’s name in the memo line. We encourage parents to either utilize the
online payment method or to send in a check with your student(s) - cash will also be accepted however this
does slow the lines. This automated system will help increase the speed of service and allow students
additional time for a more relaxing dining experience. An additional benefit of using this automated system
is that you will be able to go online and view your child’s account balance as well as the activity that has
taken place. Prepaid monies can be used for any purchases in the cafeteria, but at any time parents may
contact the school food service supervisor and request that prepaid monies be used only for meal
purchases. You can do this through a ‘note’ file that opens when your child’s account is accessed online.

Credit Policy. Payment for all meals should be made on the first day of every
week or parents are welcome to pay larger amounts into their child’s
account in advance. Charges are discouraged. Any student/s whose
account runs in arrears for two weeks or more will only be served a
sandwich with milk and be charged $.50 until the money owed is paid.

3.) At no time will a student be allowed to charge al a carte items. Parents will be notified of a
student’s negative account and expected to address the situation immediately. Please keep in mind
that these monies owed are due to the school district and not Café Services. . If it is determined this
process is being abused and an excessive negative balance accumulates, the account will be turned
off and your child be listed as a cash only student, and steps will be taken to collect outstanding
funds. Please let us know if there are any extenuating circumstances that would prevent you from
maintaining a positive lunch account balance.

Please be aware that as the contract manager for your foodservice, Café Services is acting on the
behalf of the school district and will follow and enforce the district policy.

4.) Student Allergy / Special Needs Identification: If your student has an allergy or special need when it comes
to food, please contact your school nurse and have her forward any pertinent information to the food service
director. Those needs can then be entered into your student’s account and will be identified by the POS when
the student’s I.D. number is entered.

6.) Beginning in the 2012-13 school year Fresh Picks Café will be implementing an exciting and innovative
new program to promote the USDA’s MyPlate initiative and new government requirements for school lunches.
The Strive for Five program works closely with the new USDA Regulations and the MyPlate program as well
as continuing nutritional education for the Café’s and Classrooms. This program ties the MyPlate logo into our
signs and other promotional materials to help students understand the importance of eating a balanced meal
and to help them understand what they need to take to make a full meal.
Through this program students at all grade levels will be exposed to information about the different food groups
represented on the MyPlate poster (Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, Meats and Dairy) as well as proper serving size
and nutrition information for each food group. These materials will also help students understand that they must
choose to take a fruit or vegetable with their lunch to qualify for the “meal price” set by the school district.
Your food service staff will be receiving extensive training on MyPlate and all our new programs. Your Food
Service Director is always available to answer questions, and you can post questions at any time on our website
