Previously, while working on a project, I developed a graphic to help myself sort out the
elements of Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior. You may find that graphic here: Relationship
between behavioral determinants and behavioral intent in Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior.
Since that time, the need to discuss a broader conceptual framework for decision making and
behavior lead me to develop a graphic that depicts the relationships between behavioral
determinants and behavior that includes concepts from Ajzen (& Fishbein); Bandura; and Deci
and Ryan. Although I read numerous publications from these sources, I include in the
bibliography here only those that were most significant with regard to the development of the
graphic.

You are free to duplicate the graphic for private purposes; however, I do ask that you cite this
document as your source:

As was the case with my original graphic, this graphic is a work in progress and represents my
initial efforts to expand the original graphic. I encourage you to draw your own conclusions
regarding the graphic’s conceptual reflection of Ajzen’s; Bandura’s; and Deci and Ryan’s
theories. Feel free to contact me with feedback or if you care to start a dialog about this work.
