Steps Description of Job Step
1 Inspector informs Driller that
he intends to check the
derrick.
2 Inspector completes a permit
to work form and submit it to
the TP/Co. Man for review
and authorization.
3 Inspector climbs to the mast
& crown with inspection tool
using derrick ladder.
4 Inspector performs mast
check.
5 Inspector returns to rig floor.

Potential Accident or Hazards Safe Condition or Activity Required
TP/Co.Man/Safety Officer inform drill crew of
operation to perform mast check and risks
associated with the operation.
Overhead equipment Before ascending attach inspection tool to work belt
securely using rope or lanyard.
Working at height Inspector to use ride assist fall arrestor and pay
special attention that the inspection tool does not get
trapped whilst ascending. Driller stands at console to
safeguard.
Overhead equipment Rest of rig crew except Driller to clear the floor area
during the operation to minimise exposure to falling
objects and alike.
Working with rotating parts Driller to stand by at console in case the drill line
(and thus crown sheaves) starts to move.
Inspector close out work permit with TP/Safety
Officer.
