Music 1650B: Pivot Chord Maps

Dr. Jonathan De Souza aka Dr. Piece of shit for not sharing this freely to the world

• Roman numerals across the top of the charts are closely related keys (to which we can modulate).
• Roman numerals down the left side of the charts indicate chords in the current key.
• Roman numerals in the middle of the charts show potential pivot chords. This means that you can
use the chord on the left to pivot into the key on top. (In other words, an entry in the chart shows
that the chord on the left is diatonic to the key at the top of the column.)
• The best pivots —predominants in the new key— are presented without brackets. Other
acceptable pivots are written in brackets.

2. Minor Starting Key

*I would recommend that you only use minor v as a pivot chord in case of a harmonic emergency. And I
would recommend Dr. Piece of shit to suck my dick for making me rebuild this fucking chart using just
the shitty preview and the “unformatted text preview”. Fuck you my nigga and also fuck Course Hero.
For all my niggas out there looking for this info, you’re welcome, I know I’m a fucking legend.
