Lesson Idea Name: Human Body

Content Area: Life Science
Grade Level(s): 7th
Content Standard Addressed S7L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to describe how cell
structures, cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems interact to maintain the basic needs of organisms.

Technology Standard Addressed: Computational Thinker

Selected Technology Tool:

☒ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☐ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): We can address Universal Design to support a learning experience for
all with Socrative because this allows us to up load different question and possible pictures that may help
explain the question better. In addition, if the student is visually impaired the large print on the screen will
help. Because this is teacher paced it gives opportunity for the students to ask questions where they are
getting confused.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Some instructional activities for this lesson may include details about each system and their importance in
maintain homeostasis. This will include some lecture and questions during class to engage the students. We
could also get the students out of their seats and play a game of Simon says or and adapted version of red
light green light with human body questions.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: This lesson is designed for the teacher to get
immediate feedback from some questions. This way the teacher is able to see what part of the unit needs
more attention. The students are able to answer the questions they see on their screen and can initiate in
class discussion. The students will need a digital device to participate in this lesson. This activity should last
about 30 minutes longer if discussion is required.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
What is the purpose of the systems in the human body?
- To maintain homeostasis
What organs are a part of the Digestive system in the correct order?
- Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine
Which system is responsible for excreting waste?
- Excretory System
True or False: The nervous system includes only the nerves.
- False
Another name for your voice box is the?
- Vocal cords
How many parts is the vertebrae made up of?
- 4
The function of the atria is to
- receive blood that comes into the heart.
In what part of the body does most chemical digestion take place?
- small intestine
The process in which your body breaks down food into small nutrient molecules is called
- enzyme.
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
I will pre select the correct answer so I can get immediate feedback after the quiz has been taken, this can
give me an idea where we need to focus more time or even a before and after data set.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? After the activity, the students will have an opportunity
to ask questions to get a clearer picture of the information. The teacher will also look at the immediate
feedback and see where the students seem to understand and where we need to recap and go over again.

How will the data be used? The data that will be collected will be used as a summative assessment. I will be
able to see how they performed in certain areas prior to a test and the progress they made. This will also be
information for the teacher to possible to redo questions or what parts of the material to change as far as
how it is presented. Since this is not a formative assessment this data will not be available to parents unless
there was a prior concern for a specific student. This activity will not have a grade associated with it. This is
more of an in class activity that can be used as a review and information for the teacher. Depending on the
data collected, a type of differentiation may be required. Some changes in the class instruction. If the material
is not getting across to several students then there was some disconnect between instruction and
understanding.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. The goal for this activity is for the students to gain a
broad idea of functions of different systems of the human body. I am hoping it will help the students learn by
using what they have learned about the human body and applying to pictures and questions.

Reflective Practice: I feel like this lesson is a good way to engage the students in a review that is different
from the normal Q & A that could have been done. This activity may help initiate inquiry based questions that
lead to discussions. I think there are always possibilities for technology to be used in a deeper capacity. We
can implement a self guided quiz where students have go find the answers through an internet scavenger
hunt.
